A devastating wildfire charred several neighborhoods in the central U.S. state of Colorado. Thus, the Archdiocese of Denver has recently organized a donation drive to help the wildfire victims.
As reported, the Colorado wildfire on Thursday, Dec. 30, affected many individuals.
Archdiocese Helps Wildfire Victims
According to its Facebook post, the Archdiocese started an emergency relief fund.
Proceeds of this relief fund will be reportedly sent to Archdiocesan parishes. These parishes will then distribute the funding to their respective communities.
The Archdiocese revealed that the wildfire tore through some parts of the northwest metro Denver. In addition, the Colorado wildfire affected the towns of Superior and Louisville.
Apart from that, the Archdiocese bared that the wildfire impacted hundreds of people.
It further stated that parishioners of St. Louis and Immaculate Conception lost their properties. It added that the faithful of the Sacred Heart of Mary also need assistance.
With that, the Archdiocese of Denver allocated $250,000 to support the relief fund. The funding reportedly came from the Archbishop's Catholic Appeal.
Archdiocese to Hold Special Collections
Archbishop Samuel Aquila said that parishes in the Archdiocese will hold special collections. He is the high-ranking leader of the Archdiocese of Denver.
Parishes will conduct special collections on Saturday, Jan. 8, and Jan. 9, Sunday, the archbishop noted.
Donations of these special collections will be reportedly used to support the relief fund.
The archbishop called on the Catholic faithful to support the special collections during Masses.
Catholics Unite In Prayers
Furthermore, Archbishop Aquila also urged people to pray for the victims of the Colorado wildfire.
He encouraged individuals to pray for those victims during the Prayers of the Faithful.
"To those affected by these fires, know that Joseph and Mary had to flee with Jesus, shortly after he was born," he said. "The Holy Family is close to you and knows the anguish and loss you are feeling."
Archbishop Samuel also stressed that all Catholics are with them in praying for their recovery.
He said that he asked parishes and entities to help those victims in "whatever ways they can."
The archbishop suggested that religious groups may hold food pantries for the displaced residents.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Aquila prayed that the wildfire victims might receive comfort from God.
Aside from that, he also asked for God's continuous protection for the first responders.
The Archdiocese shared that people may donate to the Marshall Fire Recovery Assistance Fund.
