Denver Catholic schools adopt apostolic mindset

Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila recently encouraged Catholics in Colorado to adopt an apostolic mindset. He also urged them to live as true disciples of God.

Instilling Apostolic Values

In a report with The Denver Catholic, several Catholic schools are encouraging their students to do so. These institutions believe that it is important to adopt this new mentality for the youth.

The schools believe this mindset would help the students develop a deep relationship with Christ.

The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred of Los Angeles took over the administration of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic STEM School.

According to the school website, they are a Catholic liberal arts school with an emphasis on STEM education.

To date, the school adopted a new teaching technique as one of the few catholic STEM schools in Colorado. They have also integrated faith with science, technology, engineering, and math.

Fulfilling its Mission

The school also prides itself in making its students missionary disciples of Christ.

Sister Faustina is the school's principal. She said that she has been working with the faculty to fulfill their mission and pointed out that it was necessary for the students to foster a relationship with Christ.

Sister Faustina added that the school wanted the children to put their faith into action.

"We want our students to encounter our Lord in the Eucharist, develop a friendship with him, and then revere that gift of life and creation that God has given us. We have a very integrated faith life at our school," Sister Faustina explained.

The school also offers sacramental preparation and Masses twice a week. There are different programs and activities where the preschoolers get involved in discovering the love of God.

Encountering God

The Catholic school hosts a Kerygma retreat during the Advent season. It is during this time that students are encouraged to respond to their faith.

These students also attend a retreat on Holy Thursday that would prepare them for the Lord's passion and resurrection.

The school chooses a scripture passage as a theme to help take students and teachers deeper into the Bible. Doing so would allow them to share their faith testimony.

Allowing Little Ones to Have Relationship with Christ

According to Sister Faustina, the school ensures that the young children would build a relationship with God. The Catholic school does so through different activities such as having prayer places on the playground.

Sister Faustina explained that the school helps the little ones memorize lyrics that are faith-centered. She added that the faculty teaches the children to pray as if God is hearing them.

She told the news outlet that doing so helped the young children have a prayer life even when they were very little.

Sister Faustina stressed the importance of the involvement of teachers in the faith. She said that if teachers continue to pray with devotion and joy, the children will fall in love with that.

She shared that God's love indeed works wonders on the children. Sister Faustina stressed how important it was to introduce Jesus to them at an early age.

There were times when the children would ask to play in the school playground. They even blew kisses to a tiny Jesus statue because He was their size.
