The pro-life community in Colorado was urged to pray as the "radical abortion legislation" was about to make law. HB22-1279 is scheduled to head to Gov. Jared Polis' desk for his expected signature.
Protecting Rights of Unborn Children
In a report with The Denver Catholic, the Catholic community and pro-life advocates are taking a stand against it. They have already contacted lawmakers and rallied together to testify against its inhumane and radical effects.
According to the Colorado General Assembly, it is a Democrat-sponsored bill that permits abortion on demand. It will also permit abortion discrimination based on sex or race, or ability level.
The new law will remove all human rights under the law for a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus. According to the report, the law might undermine parental notification of a minor getting an abortion.
Colorado's Catholic bishops spoke against the bill. The Colorado Catholic Conference urged a call to action.
Moral Obligation as Catholics
They stressed that it was their moral obligation as Catholics to urge Governor Polis to "veto HB22-1279."
Twenty-one pro-life groups gathered to form Pro-Life Colorado. The coalition includes Catholic Charities of Denver and its Respect Life Denver office.
Lynn Grandon and Elisa Olivas testified about the dignity of human life. Both are with Respect Life Denver
Consequences for Minors
Grandon pointed out the consequences should the bill remove parental consent for minors seeking an abortion.
She explained that other laws, such as preventing minors from buying liquor and cigarettes, were in place. Grandon said that young people needed guidance in knowing what was harmful to them.
Grandon stressed that minors could not comprehend the long-term effects of abortion in their lives. She shared that many teens told her that they decided on the coercion of their boyfriends and peers and pointed out that these teens regretted their decision later in life.
Grandon further said that the lack of parental notification should be enough to set red flags in the had of any loving parent.
The director of Respect Life Denver said that many of the teens she talked to wished they had made different decisions when it came to their abortion.
Olivas pleaded for the rights of unborn children and stressed that the unborn children were already living human beings in the womb. She said that the new law would make Colorado the most radical state to live in.
Olivas also said that the law would put the dignity of a baby in danger. She urged the Senate to care for women from conception to death!"
Respect Life Denver is on a mission to educate and inspire youth on life issues. They hope it would help transform Colorado into a state where every human being is valued and protected.
"The answer moving forward is education to help the average person be able to dialogue effectively within their sphere of influence on these serious arguments that have been posed," Grandon said.
She explained that they had all the right answers as science was on their side.
Grandon urged the pro-life community to remain calm and kind when responding. She knew that the truth was on their side.
