Sterling Reckling was a fine young man who grew up only blocks from St. Martin’s in the Tanglewood neighborhood. A young entrepreneur, Sterling birthed his own dogfood and dog treat business, St. Hubertus. By chance, Sterling also lived next door to the Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr., the Rector of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
A few years ago, Sterling shared with Dr. Levenson that many of his fellow “market” friends had expressed an interest in offering their goods a regular weekly market to the good folks of our local neighborhoods. When Sterling lost his life in 2021, his parents, James and Elise Reckling, and Dr. Levenson began a discussion about the type of “market” Sterling envisioned and how it could compliment the neighborhoods around St. Martin’s and beyond while serving as a lasting memorial to Sterling. The result is Sterling’s Market.
