St. Peter's Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is looking to hire an Assistant Preschool Classroom Teacher.

We are a family and child-centered program and follow the Katy ISD school calendar.

The salary base pay ranges from $10/hour (high school diploma) to $11/hour with education and without experience. An additional 'seniority pay' is added to the base pay for years of experience in early childhood.

As an Assistant Preschool Classroom Teacher, your responsibilities will include but are not be limited to the following:

  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and implementing the daily curriculum, as prepared by the classroom teacher, and learning experiences that meet, support, and advance the intellectual, social-emotional, language, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Encourage the involvement of the families of the children in the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Meet with the classroom teacher weekly to review observations and assessments and adjust the curriculum to meet the needs and interests of the individual children in the class and the class as a whole.
  • Be in the classroom for six and one half (6 ½) hours per day, five and one half (5 ½) hours of which is actual teaching time, and one (1) hour of which is planning time. Extra hours may be needed for special room preparations or activities.
  • Be currently certified in CPR, including managing a blocked airway and rescue breathing and pediatric first aid procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings, recommended training programs, conferences, and parent education meetings.
  • Refer parent requests for conferences, complaints, or problems to the classroom teacher, who may relay them to the Director.
  • Be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of a class of 12-18 children ages 3 to 4 years. Enrollment in the 5’s program varies from year to year. The course may contain one or two lead teachers and an assistant teacher. Texas Minimum Standards ratio of teacher/students must always be maintained.
  • Serve as an actively participating assistant to the motor skills, music, and Spanish teachers.
  • Obtain a minimum of twenty-four (24) clock hours of age-appropriate training according to Texas Minimum Standards. These hours exclude first aid and CPR, orientation, and pre-service training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The person selected for this position must be at least 19 years of age and preferably with at least a year or two years of experience with young children. The ideal candidate should have a C.D.A. or be working on one, a two-year degree or equivalent, or a four-year degree.
  • This person must be in good health and capable of lifting to 40 pounds and standing, walking, moving quickly, and getting down to the floor. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who can relate well to children and adults and must be willing to adhere to the school's educational philosophy. In addition, this person must be able to meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services requirements.

Pay: $10.00 - $11.00 per hour
