Job Description: Christian Education Pastor
Ministry Focus: As leadership, the Christian Education Pastor is responsible for the development and implementation of the vision, strategy, and tactical elements for all education programs related to Bible Way Fellowship Baptist Church. Our goals are to disciple and educate every member of the Bible Way Family and provide the tools to grow and mature their faith and understanding of God.
Relationships: The Director of Christian Education shall be a full-time staff member of the church and serve under the direction of the Chief Administrator. They will work directly with designated Level-2 Ministry Leaders, Sunday School Teachers and other Ministry Volunteers while working collaboratively with Bible Way Staff Directors, Support Staff, and its Ministries.
Qualifications: The Director of Christian Education shall be a strong mature Christian and ordained minister, able to serve as Staff Director for the Christian Education Ministry. They shall have as a minimum a bachelor’s degree in Christian Education with 3-5 years additional training or experience in Christian education programs, discipleship, and leadership development.
LIAISON TO SENIOR PASTOR: Work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor and Board of Elders to fulfill the Mission and Vision of BWFBC. Report weekly on the activities of the Christian Education Program to the Senior Pastor. Be available to serve the leaders and the teachers of the Church. Equip members to lead, serve and grow in the Church. Inform the Senior Pastor of any concerns regarding the members of the Church. They must pray for the Senior Pastor, ministerial and administrative staff, and the church family while supporting the financial obligations of the Church through tithes and offerings. They shall be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrator/Senior Pastor and/or the Church Administrator.
FACILITATING MINISTRY: Implement C.E. programs and execute classes for seniors, adults, young adults, youth, children, and babies to nurture their spiritual growth into mature members. Develop, implement, and evaluate a Christian Education program that supplements our weekly worship message/theme. Serve as the primary preaching/teaching voice for this weekly experience in alignment with the Senior Pastor’s preaching/teaching emphasis. Conduct weekly Meetings with ministry personnel to focus on the goal of the lesson and review Lesson Plans; then monitor the classes for what is being taught. Oversee weekly bible study and activities for all ages. Work in this area would include monthly fellowship/social events, an annual weekend retreat, summer activities, and special events for all ages. Hold the members of the ministry accountable for their spiritual maturity and continued growth. Evaluate coordinators, leaders, and workers semi-annually to ensure effective leadership, professional and personal development. Ensure that all programs and ministries fulfill our mission to disciple church membership for God’s glory and their good.
Children and Youth Ministry: In coordination with the appropriate staff/volunteers, encourage the integration of Youth into the life of the Church through the use and development of their gifts and by connecting them with worship, service, outreach, and fellowship. Investigate and inform parents and Youth about opportunities for Youth to attend camps, conventions, and summer mission projects and provide parents with regular opportunities to share concerns, to offer suggestions, or to inform you about specific needs of their Youth. Facilitate effective and innovative communication with appropriate stakeholders related to Nursery and Children’s ministry. (Ex: newsletters, the church website, personal contacts, bulletin announcements, a calendar of events, reports, etc.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
- Must have a solid theological background including familiarity with Scripture and themes of the Bible, and the ability to explain and defend core doctrines of the Christian faith.
- Ability to develop and implement a strategic plan and also assemble and train a volunteer ministry team to accomplish the vision for the Christian Education Ministry. Participate, as needed, or requested in the evaluation and development of the overall ministry.
- Requires the calling, gifts, vocational experience, and educational background necessary to lead, teach and train others and must be called to Christian Education ministry, with the ability to pass a background check and a basic physical examination.
- Must have a passion for teaching all age levels using various learning styles, and strategies; along with the ability to develop curriculum and skills in teaching others to implement age-appropriate classes.
- Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills that foster good working relationships with congregants, ministries, volunteers, and the community. The ideal candidate must be fun-loving, able to establish genuine relationships with all ages while not becoming easily frustrated.
- Must have superb organizational skills, be a systematic thinker, and a team player with skills in strategic planning, motivation, customer service, conflict resolution, multitasking, and project management.
- Must demonstrate the ability to receive instruction, interpret it, develop a plan of action, and communicate to necessary persons.
- Should have a heart to know God personally, to follow Christ as a servant, to walk with the Holy Spirit, and seek to be in unity with others. (John 17 and Ephesians 4). Must possess a desire to Shepherd. A heart that is “wired for people” and thrives on nurturing and developing others. As a leader and example to the congregation, the Minister should live a life of integrity in growing conformity to the standards of spiritual leadership set forth in I Timothy 3:1-7.
- Must be a results-oriented leader able to accomplish monthly goals with minimum direct supervision.
- Must possess a gentle and humble spirit and be willing to grow and be taught.
- Must be self-disciplined regarding personal time and spiritual, physical, and emotional health.
- Must be a Christian in full agreement with Bible Way Fellowship Baptist Church’s statement of faith; willingness and ability to serve Christ and His Church; spiritually mature.
Accountabilities:
- This position is based on a minimum 40-hour work week, with flexibility as determined through consultation with the Chief Administrator and the Administrator.
- The Workweek for the Christian Education Director is Sunday-Thursday, 8:00-5:00.
