The Bereavement Minister works closely with the Comfort Ministry Sr. Director to ensure that Lakewood Church members and staff who experience the deaths of loved ones are nurtured with the love, support, and prayers of a compassionate faith community.

This position reports to the Comfort Ministry Sr. Director/Diversity and Engagement Advisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide ministerial support, by serving as the officiant and/or eulogist during funeral services of members and their loved ones held at Lakewood and off-site (funeral homes, gravesites, etc.).
Be available to assist during funeral and memorial services as needed (on-site and off-site), including Saturdays.
Assist with coordinating funeral services and providing support to families during the bereavement process:
Provide prayer and support to families upon the notification deaths.
Meet with families to review and finalize plans for funeral services.
Assist with coordinating music, greeters, ushers, prayer partners, and other support services for funerals.
Provide follow-up care and support to bereaved families.
Reach out to families through scheduled calls, cards, emails, etc.
Provide “GriefShare” and other grief support services/referrals.
Develop and maintain a “Resource Library” of books, websites, community services/programs, and other grief support resources.
Maintain funeral records and related reports.
Prepare other reports and data as needed, including mileage and expense reports for the Sr. Director.?
Complete and submit work orders, events forms, etc. for onsite funeral services
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of member, visitor, staff, and church information.
Complete special assignments and other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director.

MINISTERIAL DUTIES

You are responsible for communicating the Church’s beliefs and our mission to our congregants, to maintain a lifestyle consistent with the Scriptures, and you are required to belong to the Church as part of our faith community. This will also include:

Regular attendance at Church services and classes
Serving as a Prayer Partner or as a volunteer in any ministry of the Church, and
Serving our community through local outreaches from time to time when needed by the Church

QUALIFICATIONS

Uncompromised commitment to Lakewood Church’s vision, values, and core beliefs
Spiritually and professionally mature
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with members, staff, and public
Strong knowledge of MS Office and Outlook, knowledge of graphic design software a plus
Organized, flexible, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of initiative
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and times outside of regular business hours
Bilingual in both written and oral Spanish are a plus

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Some college preferred
Previous experience working in a ministry setting preferred
