The Palliative Care Chaplain is under the supervision of the Director of Spiritual Care and Education. The Chaplain, in conjunction with other interdisciplinary team members, evaluates spiritual needs of patients and families on a case-by-case basis so that appropriate spiritual care can be provided. The Chaplain also works cooperatively with the Palliative Care Unit interdisciplinary team to identify and problem solve spiritual care issues and provide spiritual care services that may include patients and families.
This has a limited working term until August 2023 and may require working a staggered day/evening shift with some weekends.
Attends and participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, assists in developing care plans, facilitates understanding of spiritual aspects of care and provides team with spiritual care objectives.
Demonstrates respect for fellow professionals and IDG leadership through responsibility for own professional presence and attention to group process.
Presents concise and pertinent oral and written reports to interdisciplinary team.
Attends required departmental and clinical meetings, including continuing education events.
The Palliative Care Chaplain will adhere to the highest standards of professional values and as documented in the Standards of the Association for Professional Chaplains.
EDUCATION: Graduate-level theological degree from a college, university or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Equivalencies for graduate level theological degree will be granted by the individual professional organization according to their own established guidelines.
Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC); National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
