ob description - Houston Mennonite Church Child Care Worker

• Provides assistance to leader, and facilitates children's participation in activities during Children’s

Church (led by a church member during the worship service)

• Supervises, and engages children during open play (after Children’s Church), indoors and outdoors as weather appropriate. Ensures all children remain within the area of supervision.
• Comfort and engage in play with children distressed by separation from parent(s).
• Polite, friendly and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.
• Stay until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.
• Straighten the room and clean any used toys before leaving.
• Report any hazardous toys or furniture to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator.
• Abide by Houston Mennonite Church childcare policies and classroom expectations.
• Communicate in advance by phone or e- mail to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and administrative assistant any personal absences:
• Planned absences must be given two weeks ahead of time.
• In the case of last- minute illness, contact the Children's ministry coordinator 1 hour prior to shift so a replacement or volunteer may be found.
• Follow the State of Texas requirements for reporting child abuse or neglect. “If you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected, or you think a child may have died from being mistreated, you must report what you know to the county Department of Social Services.

Qualifications:

• Experienced in the care of children 1- 6 years of age with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics.
• 18 years of age or older
• Willing to submit to background check.
• Must have and maintain current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR training/certification for infants and children, or be willing to complete a CPR course. Successful completion of training is reimbursable by the employer.

• Must be willing to complete 1 hr training in child abuse awareness
