GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Christian Education Minister (CEM) will provide Christian Educational leadership to all of the ministries of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church and is responsible for developing, directing, and managing all Christian Educational programming for the church. Required to be a Christian with a strong, demonstrated commitment to following Jesus Christ and is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in Christian Educational and Spiritual formation programming.

Possesses a genuine concern for all people, and the capacity to relate with all people in a sensitive, respectful way.

WORK EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in Christian Education or a related field, or the equivalent of education and experience to perform the duties of the CEM. Knowledge of Christian Education theory and practice.

DUTIES

1. Plans and coordinates, in consultation with the Pastor and Executive Pastor, a goal-driven, well-rounded, multifaceted, and effective program of in-person and virtual Christian Education, including Sunday School, Bible Study, and the spiritual formation for all age groups, always seeking to involve both those in the community at large as well as the membership of the church.

2. Recruits, selects, and trains, resources including Sunday School leaders and other Christian Education formation ministers. Serves in partnership with church ministry volunteers to achieve the objectives of a multifaceted and effective program of Christian Education.

3. Is responsible for organizing and leading scheduled meetings of Christian Ed volunteer leaders to establish the church-wide curriculum of Christian Education for all ages and stages of the memberships’ Christian development.

4. Is up to date with, and uses, any, and all-social media needed to connect and communicate with Children, Youth, and College Age persons on a regular basis.

5. Encourages and assists Children, Youth, and College Age persons in participating in all facets of the church's life and work, particularly in the Christian maturation of these groups.

6. Does regular "Contact Work" with students in off-site settings (school and community activities in which they are involved).

7. Emphasizes programs that help Children, Youth, and College Age persons in developing a sense of Christian vocation for their adult lives.

8. Responsible for determining the CE curriculum and ordering publications/materials as needed that meet the objectives of the curriculum. Encourages all groups within the church to use the selected materials.

9. Coordinates the Christian Education calendar for the church, scheduling and publicizing events and educational offerings.

10. Oversees an annual church-wide Vacation Bible School program for children and adults.

11. Develops and submits to the Executive Pastor an annual budget for Christian Educational ministries, and oversees the expenditure of the approved budget.

12. Works intentionally to facilitate the assimilation of new church members into Christian Education and Spiritual Formation ministries of the congregation.

13. Keeps the congregation well informed about the church’s Christian educational ministries by appropriately marketing all events and classes by every other means possible within budget.

14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or the Executive Pastor.

  • Certificate of License (Christian Ministry) (Required)
