Church Description:

Cityview Bible Church in Round Rock, TX is a dynamic, multi-ethnic congregation that is committed to reaching every man, woman, and child in Greater Austin with the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ.  We launched in 2007 with a passion for loving our city, multiplying disciples, preaching the Word, and building a church that reflects the diversity and unity of the Kingdom of God. We are a church-planting church.  We have planted five churches in the last ten years - in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, and 2019. We are a member of the Association of Hill Country Churches (AHCC), a network of 26 reproducing, Bible-based, evangelistic churches in Greater Austin committed to reaching our region with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Position Description:

Cityview is looking to hire a full-time church planter that will be in residency for 24 months. The residency is designed to train and equip a church-planter to start and lead a new congregation in greater Austin.  Cityview is searching for someone with demonstrated experience in starting new ministries or organizations who can also articulate a clear call from God to church planting.  The church-planter must be skilled in connecting with culture and sharing the gospel in a contextualized way.  Church planting requires strong visionary leadership and the ability to multiply disciples who can reach others with the gospel. The planter will work with the Cityview elders and the AHCC to determine the most strategic location for the future church. During the residency, the church-plant pastor will learn the DNA of our movement, grow in pastoral leadership and evangelism, and work to build a healthy core team for a future church plant. The planter will be asked to meet certain metrics during the residency in order to receive approval for official launch by the elders of Cityview.

Outcomes & Results – Success In This Position Will Result In:

  • A fully equipped, healthy church planter who starts a fully equipped, healthy church
  • Gathering a core-team of at least 40 individuals (both from Cityview & community)
  • Cityview’s continued health and growth as a multiplying, disciple-making church
  • Cityview being in a better place when the planter leaves because of the planter’s contributions
  • Leaders are sent out from Cityview, and new leaders are developed to fill in prior leader’s place

Major Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Build out full ministry plans for a new church plant
  • Recruit, train, and support a core team to plant a new church
  • Write and follow a learning contract for growth and health during residency
  • Lead a key ministry at Cityview, helping it to flourish and continue after plant is launched
  • Lead Sunday morning ministry areas
  • Lead and participate in multiple Cityview ministries to build relationships with members
  • Participate as part of the preaching/teaching team, and help develop/lead major events
  • Participate in and lead a Life Group that would eventually multiply other Life Groups
  • Create a ministry within Cityview, and sustain this ministry by building leaders
  • Disciple men within the church for their personal growth and development
  • Be active in sharing the gospel and building relationships outside the church
  • Develop a network of relationships and start ministry inside the planter’s target area

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Qualifications:

  • Elder-qualified based on the list in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9; a man full of Christlike character
  • Works well with a team, and desires to be a family, not just an organization
  • Strong theological framework and convictions about core Christian truths
  • A deep knowledge and passion for the Scriptures, and the ability to lead through them
  • A love for people far from God, and a conviction to see them enter into the Family of God
  • A heart for the local church, and conviction about the church’s central role in reaching the lost, equipping the saints, and fulfilling the mission of God
  • Ability to disciple and develop leaders within Cityview’s system of spiritual formation
  • “Starter” personality – the ability to start and sustain new ministries and movements
  • A self-motivated person; doesn’t need to be told what to do, but rather sees a need and wants to solve it
  • Strong communication skills – ability to coordinate, collaborate, and communicate with elders, staff, and lay leaders at Cityview
  • A person with a strong daily walk with Jesus, who listens and obeys the Spirit and is rooted in the Word
  • Can adequately handle the Scriptures, both teaching and preaching the Word effectively
  • Strong leader who can oversee, manage, and develop various ministry staff and volunteers
  • Proactive reconciler who identifies potential problems and seeks to keep the peace with others

Weekly Time Commitments:

Full-time ministry often requires more than 40 hours per week.  However, the church-planter will be careful to not allow ministry to encroach upon the most important areas of his life.  A personal devotional life is expected to be vibrant, and rhythms of rest, refreshment, and exercise are mandatory.  In addition, a healthy church planter will prioritize his commitment to his spouse and family above other ministry responsibilities.  Obviously, the weekly demands on a church-planter will vary, but this should give a general sense of the two years of residency:

Year 1

  • Personal Growth & Professional Development (8-10hrs)
  • New Church Plant Development (4-7hrs)
  • Staff Responsibilities at Cityview (ministry leadership, pastoral care, discipleship, etc.) (25-30hrs)
  • Administrative & Organizational Tasks (email, staff meetings, planning, calls, etc.) (3-8hrs)

Total = 40-55hrs

Year 2

  • Personal Growth & Professional Development (8-10hrs)
  • New Church Plant Development (25-30hrs)
  • Staff Responsibilities at Cityview (ministry leadership, pastoral care, discipleship, etc.) (4-7hrs)
  • Administrative & Organizational Tasks (email, staff meetings, planning, calls, etc.) (3-8hrs)
