POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Initiatives Coordinator is a CLUMC team member who creates new and gives oversight to existing CLUMC community partnerships and relationships. The Community Initiatives Coordinator supports the church in fulfilling its calling to create pathways to Jesus Christ in its community. The role facilitates CLUMC’s efforts to build bridges of literacy, health, mentoring, friendship, and prayer with our surrounding community. The role helps CLUMC identify community needs and enter in relationships with our neighbors and other stakeholders to facilitate community transformation.

 

The Community Initiatives Coordinator will report to the Executive Pastor, who, in collaboration with other ministry leaders, supports the disciple-making mission of CLUMC.

 

A successful candidate will be a leader in relationship building between the CLUMC and its surrounding community. It will strengthen existing community partnerships, such as the CLUMC Buddies program, while also creating new community partnerships with a view to collaboration with the local stakeholders. This role calls for a committed individual with strong interpersonal, organization, research, and administrative skills. The successful candidate prioritizes his/her own personal faith journey with Christ, exemplifies Christian character, is teachable, a listener, and works well within and outside the CLUMC team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
  • 3-5 years related experience working in church ministry, nonprofit leadership, or related activities
  • Ability to build relationships with local church, community, education, and nonprofit leaders
  • Skilled in listening to the community by attending local events, meetings, and other community gatherings
  • Experience with grant writing and/or other fundraising activities
  • Ability to research and analyze community data and evaluate community needs
  • Ability to plan and organize programs, courses, and events aimed at building bridges between CLUMC and its surrounding community
  • Support ministry directors in understanding the intersection between CLUMC church ministries and community partnerships
  • Identify, develop, and equip volunteer teams
  • Mature knowledge of the Bible, spiritual disciplines and, commitment to growth
  • Subscribe to the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the church’s initiative with Clear Lake City Elementary (CLCE) School Buddies Program (“Clear Lake Buddies”)
  • Guide the congregation in understanding our CLCE students, families, teachers, and administrative staff
  • Recruiting, equipping, and deploying volunteers for opportunities at CLCE and other community partnerships ▪ Foster relationships and develop champions with community-based organizations, faith leaders, civic and community leaders that lead to partnerships with CLUMC ▪ Research community data to understand community needs and make actionable recommendations

 

ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Healthy and respectful working relationship within the larger CLUMC staff team
  • Adhere to CLUMC organizational policies and procedures, e.g., financial and Safe Sanctuary policies
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and collaborative relationships with other CLUMC ministries, (e.g., music and fine arts, worship team, MDO, mission and outreach)
  • Understands and promotes the disciple-making mission set forth in the CLUMC Holy Conversations report

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time position and includes benefits. The annual salary range for the position is $50,000 - $55,000, commensurate with experience. Resume and cover letter required for consideration.
