Principal Responsibilities:

  • This full-time position is responsible for planning and implementing age level appropriate ministry to and with mid-high, high-school and college students in line with the church’s vision and discipleship plan, with clear goals to grow the participation in all areas.
  • This position facilitates the church’s relationship with the Scouting community and seeks to engage those youth in the life the church.
  • This position oversees the creation, development, and implementation of all recreation programs for children, youth, adult and senior constituents with emphasis on team activities.
  • This position reports to the Pastor of Family Ministries.

To be successful in this position, the incumbent must profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, be committed to personal spiritual growth and healthy lifestyle, and a strong example as well as leader of others in the United Methodist faith.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • Must embrace Christian discipline, and United Methodist doctrine and theology.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Must be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
  • Dynamic, energetic person with a passion for leading youth in discipleship
  • Experience working successfully with youth is preferred.
  • Social media skills are critical.
  • This position can be physically demanding (ie. Mission trips, lock-ins, games, set-up/take down of equipment, etc.) and requires flexibility in scheduling time for evenings, Sundays, occasional Saturdays, and camp weeks.

Summary of Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Sunday School curriculum for youth (grades 6-12) and recruit teachers. Teach as needed
  • Coordinate and implement UMYF.
  • Coordinate and implement midweek activities/groups for youth
  • Mentor youth in developing leadership skills.
  • Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the pastor(s) and other teachers/leaders.
  • Maintain records of youth participation and manage the youth ministry budget.
  • Communicate in a timely manner using all available resources (email, social media, bulletin boards, newsletter, etc.)
  • Be available to youth in a variety of ways (extracurricular activities, visitations.)
  • Take youth to UM ARMY, Big House, District Camp and other mission and connectional events.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community schools and organizations
  • Market recreational ministry for growth in children, youth, adult and senior programs, providing new activities and opportunities and the highest level of excellence for participants.
  • Develop and promote special events, league activities and summer camp programs.
  • Serve as the Charter Organization Representative to our Scouting units.
  • Provide religious education to scouting groups as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in youth ministry.
  • Ensure the Safe Sanctuary Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings.

  • Exhibits proficiency in planning, management and implementation of a multi-faceted ministry. Views and promptly acknowledges emails and text messages and voicemail regularly.
  • Spiritual, Emotional and Professional Maturity:Has annual self-initiated and communicated personal/professional growth plan to help strengthen and improve effectiveness in ministry. This growth plan will be informed through personal insight and evaluation recommendations.
  • Process Management: Good at figuring out the processes necessary to get things done; knows how to organize people and activities; understands how to separate and combine tasks into efficient work flow.
  • Task Completion: Follow through with people/tasks until end result is achieved and then evaluated.
  • Problem Solving: Has a basic understanding of management principles. Uses logic and methods to solve difficult problems and effective solutions; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems; desire and ability to look beyond the obvious.

Hours of Work:

Full Time (40 hours) Exempt position with regular office Hours: Sunday-Thursday

Normal Days Off: Friday and Saturday

Hours may vary.

Detail of Physical Activities:

A normal work week will consist of walking, light lifting, sitting, use of computer and copier machines, frequent bending and stopping, with frequent sitting on the floor. A special-event week will consist or walking, moderate-heavy lifting, standing for long periods of time, dancing, with frequent bending and stopping.

Working Conditions & Hazards

This position is performed in a typical office and church environment with minimal hazards and noise.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
