Primary Purpose: In response to the uptick in children and youth from Ukraine seeking safety in the United States, CWS is piloting an initiative to expedite and provide intensive support to Ukrainian Unaccompanied Children and their proposed sponsors. This is a temporary position through December 2022, with possibility to extend based on need. The Home Study Caseworker will provide culturally and linguistically sound, trauma-informed, collaborative home study services to Ukrainian Unaccompanied Immigrant Children and their sponsors. Caseworkers will conduct outreach and education to community service providers to supplement existing services that do not adequately address the unique needs of children impacted by war.

 

This is temporary assignment, scheduled to end in Dec, 2022, with possibility of extension.

 

Essential Duties:

 

Home Study

  • Conduct in-person home visits across the US to interview and provide psychoeducation to Sponsors.
  • Complete reports within 10 days of receiving Home Study referral with assessment information and findings.
  • Provide orientation to Post Release Service Caseworker on complex cases that are approved for reunification following the Home Study.
  • Participate in team meetings as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience working with children and youth, family reunification/preservation, foster care/child welfare, or children and youth in forced migration and previous work experience and interest working with foreign born populations is required.
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed psychosocial education and case management is required.

 

Skills:

  • High level of flexibility, emotional maturity and resilience
  • Demonstrated skills in customer service, communication and ability to engage children and families by phone, online platforms and in person
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals
  • Schedule and manage workloads to meet deadlines
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications and client databases
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and willingness to support CWS’ Platform on Racial Justice as a CWS employee required

 

Education & Certifications:

 

  • Minimum education of a bachelor's degree in social work (BSW) or an equivalent degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other behavioral science.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Willing to travel independently locally and long distance (by car and plane), often on short notice, to visit clients in their home and the community up to 100% of the time
  • CWS’ U.S. COVID-19 Vaccination Policy requires all new staff to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as soon as reasonable, no longer than 60 days of employment.   • Fluency (verbal and written) required in English and Ukrainian. Tri-lingual speakers of English, Ukrainian and Russian are highly preferred.

  • Must have access to reliable internet and proximity to airport for travel as assigned
  • Evening/weekend availability required
