Summary / Objective

First and foremost, the Lead Director of High School Ministry will seek to walk with God and cultivate a healthy personal and family life (these are most important, and everything else is subordinate to these). The Lead Director of High School Ministry will seek to represent Grace Fellowship effectively and lead all the church's high school student ministry functions. This position reports to the Student Ministry Pastor.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This role is a 40-hour per week full-time, exempt position. You are encouraged to develop a working schedule that maximizes both times with your family and productive time accomplishing the job. It is assumed that you will work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and ministry on Sundays counts as working hours.

Qualifications/Experience/Education

A solid and mature faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, thriving prayer life, a God-honoring lifestyle, and passion for the Word of God help fuel a passion and desire to lead students to God's heart and launch them with God's soul into the world. Also essential to thriving and succeeding in student ministry at Grace Fellowship are the following skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Devoted, contagious, growing follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Clear and compelling call to minister to high school students.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. (Having completed or completing a graduate/seminary degree is also desirable but not required.)
  • 3-5 years experience in student ministry as a growing ministry point leader.
  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities to plan with detail to execute a broad scope of ministry activities.
  • Effectively engage and connect with a broad spectrum of students and desire to intentionally disciple students.
  • Skilled in recruiting, developing, and equipping teams of leaders to minister to students.
  • Team player with a teachable and collaborative spirit committed to excellence.
  • Thorough and detail-oriented with solid initiative, judgment, wisdom, and decision-making.
  • Great communication skills, crafted gifting to teach God's Word with depth and excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Executing skills/attention to detail (40% of role)

  • The Lead Director of High School Ministry is responsible for championing the big picture of high school ministry and mobilizing student ministry staff and volunteers in accomplishing tasks and details with excellence. This includes leadership and development of High School Sunday Night, various new-comer friendly “Front Door Events,” a wide-reaching small group structure, a large annual high school retreat, and point leadership of one student ministry summer mission trip.
  • The Lead Director of High School Ministry also works alongside the Student Pastor to bridge transitions between junior high and high school.
  • The Lead Director of High School Ministry works alongside the Student Pastor to establish the high school budget and ministry goals.

Relationship (35% of role)

  • Relationally lead and invest in the Associate Director of High School Ministry, core volunteers, and summer interns.
  • Build and invest in high school student leaders through faith-sharing groups. This is a group of students who have committed to leading their peers through example, living with integrity, and creating a welcoming environment in high school ministry.
  • Mentor high school students and volunteer leaders in taking their next steps with Jesus.
  • Take point on “care calls” serving high school students and their families. This might include hospital visits, getting new students involved, referring parents to recommended counselors, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly student staff meetings, monthly all church staff meetings, quarterly relational staff days, and semi-annual church leadership meetings.

Teaching (25% of role)

  • Be the point leader and primary teacher at High School Sunday Nights. This involves choosing relevant topics, age-appropriate Bible exploration, and communicating clearly and effectively.
  • Lead through teaching and facilitating conversation in small group venues and training volunteers to do the same.

In this role, successful ministry to high school students includes:

  • Development of a culture that invites students into a biblical journey with Jesus connects them in community with one another. It encourages them to reach out to others to do the same.
  • Kingdom impact through trips, events, large groups, small groups, and mentoring relationships.
  • Develop a growing number of students and leaders involved in discipleship and encourage them to become disciple-makers.
  • Fostering a broad student appeal.
  • Continue Grace Fellowship's reputation in the community for loving and investing in the lives of high school students.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

The position operates in the Student Ministry. This role routinely will require off-campus travel. There may be events that require physical exertion.
