JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the bi-weekly and special payrolls for approximately 400 full and part-time employees. This individual must maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential. They must be a proactive, efficient, and resourceful, with a high level of professionalism.
This position reports to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
- Designing, creating and maintaining payroll activities to ensure all employees receive their approved compensation on a bi-weekly basis and in an accurate manner
- Enter and maintain employee data in multiple applications
- Oversee the benefit transitions into the payroll software system
- Maintains knowledge of changes to payroll legislation, either existing or proposed, that may affect payroll processing methods and tools
- Identifies extraordinary payroll circumstances which will involve special processing and researches the appropriate handing within the organization’s payroll processing system
- Assist individual staff to determine appropriate withholding amounts required for federal income tax considering housing allowance, retirement contributions, and other taxable benefits
- Accurately calculate and report taxable benefits
- Process employee childcare reimbursements
- Processes basic periodic reporting and remittances, such as withholdings and annual returns
- Oversee the annual employee reports: 1095C, 1094C and W-2’s
- Oversee the quarterly and year-end payroll tax filing
- Review and approve accruals, monthly reporting, and annual activity for payroll
- Analyze payroll expenses and reporting discrepancies and oddities to management
- Designs communications tools to be used to communicate payroll related information to employees and management
- Train and assist all levels of employees and management with payroll related questions and issues
- Identifies trends and opportunities for improvement in compensation costs and methods
- Supervises the professional development and performance of payroll support personnel
- Handle sensitive, confidential information and assignments with tact, discretion, and diplomacy
- Other duties as assigned

- Experience with ExponentHR or other HRIS/Payroll processing platform is highly preferred
- Aptitude for quick learning and ability to adapt to a fast-paced payroll environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and friendly disposition
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate effective time management skills
- Ability to interact effectively with staff in a cheerful and professional manner
- Experience in training employees on payroll related procedures
- Attention to detail
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience
- Certified Payroll Professional license or completion of CPP within the first twelve months of employment
