Position Overview
The goal of the BBLC Director is to develop and grow our preschool program by cultivating an environment that focuses on nurturing children and providing early learning skills with a focus on Bible truths and Christian principles. This ministry serves as an evangelism tool for SUMC.
Essential Job Functions
The Bright Beginning Learning Center (BBLC Preschool) Director is responsible for all aspects of the Preschool program at SUMC. We are looking for someone creative, capable, and confident to lead us in a new direction. This position is full-time and reports to the Children’s Pastor.
Director Requirements
Degree in early childhood development or related field preferred
1-2 years’ experience in this role preferred
State license preferred

Duties shall include, but are not limited to:
Administer the day-to-day operation of the program in keeping with its policies and philosophies, and with SUMC’s mission, vision, and values
Know and maintain all licensing standards as they apply to BBLC at SUMC – work directly with State Licensing to assure compliance
Develop a positive, business-like working relationship with BBLC teachers and staff
Be on the premises when the program is in session, or designate an alternate
Prepare staff work schedules/calendars and training
Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, train, evaluate and terminate personnel in the best interests of the program
Utilize the BBLC Board of Directors, Children’s Ministries Director, Senior Pastor, and Trustees Chair as needed
Arrange for substitutes as needed
Plan and conduct weekly staff meetings among the teachers
Communicate with parents any necessary program information
Conduct facility tours with prospective families interested in attending our program
Meet with church staff, BBLC Board of Directors, and other groups as needed
Keep and maintain all required records including children enrolled, tuition payments and discounts, and teacher documentation
Keep and maintain all staff supervision/ evaluation reports
Plan and publicize the annual calendar
Coordinate the calendar with public and private schools, church activities, and the community
Coordinate the use of shared space and equipment with directors of other church programs and administrators in the church
Prepare and adopt an annual budget with the Financial Manager and operate the program within that budget
Collect tuition and fees and authorize payment of payroll and accounts payable
Plan and equip indoor and outdoor spaces
Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies
Request and/ or supervise maintenance, repair, and replacement of fixtures and supplies as appropriate
Supervise cleaning and care of space used with the assistance of SUMC Trustees
Update and distribute the staff and parent handbooks annually or when policy changes are made
Salary is commensurate with experience.
