HISTORY & CURRENT

After growing through small group gatherings, Sugar Creek Baptist Church began officially meeting for worship services in 1975. Over the next decade, the church grew to nearly 2000 people. Having gone through a Pastoral change with the founding Pastor's retirement, the church continued to grow, and by 1994, they had moved into their new 3000 people Worship Center.

On October 13, 2002, Pastor Mark Hartman was called Senior Pastor. Pastor Hartman’s leadership has given Sugar Creek a renewed sense of purpose. The church has grown to four campuses as it strategically looks for more places for the Gospel to be proclaimed.

The Missouri City (MC) Campus is looking for a Student Pastor to join their 8-person campus staff who faithfully serve the individuals and families who call the Missouri City Campus home. The church is emerging from COVID-19, and attendance at the MC Campus hovers around 600 in weekly attendance (and about students in middle and high school).

Student Ministry
Connection

Sugar Creek Church Student Ministry exists to help students worship God passionately, connect in deep relationships, serve as empowered leaders, and share stories of life change.

They seek to connect teenagers to God, each other, and adults who are passionate about making a godly impact on their lives. Leadership seeks to create engaging and relational environments for those in middle school and high school. It focuses on creating large and small group settings through activities, worship, teaching, and relationships. The MC Campus Student Pastor gives oversight and direction to all ministries from 6th through 12th grade.

Outward Faced
The goal for the Student Ministry is to create a place where all students (whether coming from a church background or not) are loved and cared for by staff and leaders who express Christ’s love to them and help them understand the Gospel better. The ministry is always seeking to reach those who don't know Jesus and help mature those who have a relationship with Jesus.

Resourced Well
Sugar Creek Church places high value on the Student Ministry. The church is equipped with ample resources to create environments for all to have a blast. All campuses have student-staff members and spaces uniquely designed for students to build community and engage spiritually.

Solid Foundation
The student ministry has a great history of building upon and is primed for growth. Students are engaged in the weekly programming, jumping into leadership opportunities (LAB), and making a difference in their community through service projects and mission trips.

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY
SUCCESSFUL HISTORY
The current MC Campus Student Pastor has been highly effective. This is super-positive and can be a challenge for a new leader- following in the footsteps of someone who has done well presents unique expectations and comparisons. The new leader should come in and build off of the solid foundation, but also know there are some great opportunities to enhance relationships, bring energy, and develop the volunteer and student leadership even more.

The student leaders are strong, and the majority of them are in their sophomore or junior year in high school, which means the new leaders will have a good season with a solid group to continue the momentum.

VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
As the MC Campus grows, the new Campus Student Pastor must design a scalable ministry structure to grow with the church. The student ministry has a solid base of volunteers, and this group is hungry to learn even more to meet the needs of the students better and reach more students for Jesus. The leaders desire to be trained with practical tools and methods to meet students where they are, partner with parents through the teen years and equip students to love Jesus and others well.

BUILDING BLOCKS
The new student pastor will need to have the ability to build upon the foundation and establish creative ways to minister to the preteens, teens, and families. The students are hungry for the community but have also expressed a desire to grow deeper and broader. The Student Pastor will work with Abram (the Sugar Creek overall Student Pastor) to help set the direction and partner with the Missouri City team to lead the middle school and high school ministries at the Missouri City campus.

LIMITED SPACE
The current Missouri City student space is limited (on Sunday mornings). However, they are given use of the Worship Center on Sunday evenings. This means the rooms are transformed each week to reflect better the need for the Student Ministry programming and small groups.
