Cardinal Timothy Dolan has recently given new assignments to four auxiliary bishops and five Catholic priests. The cardinal is the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.
As reported, the Office of the Cardinal made the announcement regarding the new appointments.
Auxiliary Bishops' Appointments
According to Catholic New York (CNY), the said new assignments took effect on Monday, April 11.
Cardinal Dolan reportedly appointed Auxiliary Bishop John Bonnici to be an episcopal vicar. The latter has started serving the counties of Westchester and Rockland.
Despite the appointment, he continues to be the pastor of SS. John and Paul parish and St. Augustine parish. Both parishes are reportedly located in Larchmont, New York.
Likewise, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Espaillat has also been appointed as an episcopal vicar. He would dedicate his service to the Catholic Christians in the Bronx.
Bishop Espaillat reportedly remains to be the pastor of St. Anthony of Padua parish in the Bronx. He has been serving the parish for nearly seven years.
He would also serve concurrently as the spiritual director of the Archdiocesan youth ministry. He is also the director of the Hispanic Charismatic Renewal of the Archdiocese.
To recall, Bishop Bonnici and Bishop Espaillat are the newly-ordained auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese. Cardinal Dolan reportedly ordained the two new auxiliary bishops on March 1.
Moreover, Staten Island welcomes Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne as its new episcopal vicar. He was also appointed as the new pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish in Staten Island.
Auxiliary Bishop Gerardo Colacicco accepted his new role as the pastor of St. Mary's parish. The Catholic worship house is situated in Wappingers Falls, New York, the report noted.
Bishop Colacicco currently serves as an episcopal vicar for Dutchess, Sullivan, and Orange counties. He also reportedly oversees the parishes in the counties of Ulster and Putnam.
New Assignments for Archdiocesan Priests
CNY reported that Cardinal Dolan also assigned new administrators and a parochial vicar.
The New York archbishop appointed Father Eric Cruz to be the administrator of St. Luke's parish. Father Cruz still serves as the director of Catholic Charities Community Services Bronx Center.
Furthermore, Father Shane Johnson becomes the new administrator of St. Anthony of Padua parish.
Cardinal Dolan assigned Father Michael Eguino to St. Anselm-St. Roch parish in the Bronx. He would reportedly perform his duties as the church's new administrator.
Father Louis Masi also received a new appointment from the Cardinal's Office. He would be the new administrator of St. Augustine parish and SS. John and Paul parish.
Meanwhile, Father John Tran has been assigned to be the parochial vicar of St. James Apostle parish. He previously served the same position at St. Mary, Mother of the Church.
