The New Covenant Church of Philadelphia will host the Pollution & Community Health Conference for pastors and lay leaders on Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m.

In this conference, churches will tackle the issue of pollution and how it affects the community. The Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) is the event's organizer.

Pollution & Community Health Conference

Pastors and laity leaders from all over Pennsylvania will gather in Philadelphia to discuss the effects of pollution on local communities and come up with solutions.

According to Eventbrite, the Evangelical Environmental Network, the Bywood Community Association, and the Climate Witness Project will host a free session. There, pastors and religious leaders may learn more about the effects of pollution, why Christians should care, and how to respond.

Effects of Pollution

Any chemical, physical, or biological contaminant that alters the atmospheric properties is considered air pollution. Common causes of air pollution include home furnaces, cars, factories, and wildfires.

The World Health Organization revealed that particulate matter, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide are examples of pollutants that are particularly dangerous to the public's health. Both outdoor and interior air pollution are major contributors to the prevalence and severity of respiratory and other disorders.

Several factors that contribute to air pollution are also major contributors to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Air pollution reduction policies reduce diseases caused by air pollution and mitigate climate change.

At the conference, several speakers, along with Justin Dula, the director of the Office of Environmental Justice, will also address the issue, particularly in Pennsylvania.

Per the post, Dula's outreach efforts focus on those affected by environmental damage.

Since joining the Office in 2008, Dula has worked as the Eastern Regional Coordinator, giving him exposure to communities as diverse as those in the historic coal towns of Pennsylvania's anthracite region and the suburbs of Philadelphia.
