Philadelphia Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic two–year–old Mercy Senior Health Center will be closed in September due to the increasing expenses. It is also confirmed that 14 employees will be laid off in this closure.

Closure of Mercy Senior Health Center

The medical center was $2 million worth when it was built and opened just two years ago. Though many people will lose their jobs, Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is working on vacant positions in their other branches to hire them.

According to the source, all center patients will be endorsed to Mercy Medical Associates at Eastwick in Philadelphia and will also avail of the same service.

In addition, Mercy Senior Health Center serves senior citizens with physical and behavioral health and social services. And aside from specialized care from the center, it also focuses on counseling for elderly patients.

Many Senior Care Facilities are Closing in 2022

Many senior facilities across America have announced closure due to financial shortages and are expected to close by the end of 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic added to the burden of many senior homes, and a government improvement plan is lacking.

Adjusting Medicare expenses and stopping public health emergencies is the best plan for federal policymakers to meet the shortage of finances in nursing homes this year. Although Biden is working hard to develop the facilities, it left many centers with no choice.

AHC has reported that an increasing number of nursing homes have been closing over the past seven years, and this year 400 more nursing homes are expected to stop their service.

According to the data, 1,000 nursing homes have closed since  2015, and 327 were during a pandemic. The closures of these facilities have resulted in 45,000 residents being displaced.

Nursing homes were understaffed in March 2022 since 2,500 lost their jobs due to a lack of funds during a pandemic. These struggles have made nursing homes cut the number of residents and, worst case scenario, some of them closed.
