Dream City Church has been running a Marriage Series: Just Listen, since Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The church’s Facebook page emphasized that couples would learn to listen genuinely. They added that it could be one of the essential skills they could ever know.

As further posted, the church said that people might often think listening could be a complete physical response. It might seem easy as long as they have working eardrums, but added the Bible does not define listening as functioning eardrums, as stated in the post.

Moreover, the church’s post emphasized that Jesus repeatedly said, “if anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” They added that He noted that receiving sound waves is not counted.

They mentioned that Jesus refers to a spiritual exercise that people need to learn.

Marriage Series: Just Listen

The church’s website explained the Marriage Series: “Just Listen” concept. They revealed that people nowadays are incapable of genuinely hearing others. They said that with the progress of iPads, smartphones, and personal devices, the problem has become severe.

They emphasized that simply knowing how to listen seems like an easy measure to take. But, they stressed that the problem is people only select what to hear. They said people only listen to themselves.

In addition, the website said that modern therapists use the term “active listening skills,” which could help understand the older and more profound image of what listening requires based on the Bible.

Biblical Listening

According to the same website, Biblical listening is a spiritual activity that starts with a prayer. The church mentioned that if someone struggles with conflicts, cannot work past, or feel like their wife or husband never listens to them, they could begin with a prayer.

The church pointed out that prayer allows one’s marriage to experience God’s grace. They emphasized that they could not do much without starting it in worship.

Moreover, the website revealed that it is possible for couples to feel the same when they feel like their partner is overly stubborn, unreasonable, and impossible.

The church explained that if couples do not pray together, they cannot listen to each other since they do not hear God first.

Another Biblical Listening they highlighted is the “Stop, Look, Listen.” They stressed the Scripture in James 1:19, which says all people must be quick to listen and slow in speaking and becoming angry.

As further explained, Biblical listening relates to humans' hearts, not their eardrums. The church advised married couples to start getting their hearts right before God so they could listen to their spouse.

Moreover, the website mentioned that once their hearts are ready, they should stop talking, defending, and arguing with their partner. They added that the spouse should look at their partner’s years and listen to what they are saying.

Dream City Church emphasized that this is one of the most unique and profound processes to demonstrate to one’s partner that they care. They explained that it meanest they do not start mentally rejecting, interrupting, or thinking of their response even before they are done talking.

More importantly, the website stressed the Bible verse in Proverbs 18:13, which says the one who answers before he hears is shameful and absurd.
