St. Francis Xavier Catholic Community’s History

The church's website said its ministry, the Catholic faith community of St. Francis Xavier, pledged themselves to an ever-deepening personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which manifests itself in prayer, worship, and mission.

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Community said they do this under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Through the baptismal call to be Christ for others, participants are led by Ignatian principles in pursuing a faith that does justice in their daily lives, according to the church.

The church said the parish formally commemorated 75 years of dedication to serving the heart of the Phoenix community under the leadership of Pastor Russell Roide S.J.

To honor the occasion, a first-ever parish photo directory and an anniversary cookbook were produced, it added.

Numerous new ministries have been established, and the parish continues to prioritize expanding its capacity to serve the local community, according to the church.

The church said its progress toward realizing Frank C. Brophy's 1957 vision is excellent.

In 1959, the current church was finished, the church said.

According to the church, during the 1957 church-building effort, Frank C. Brophy expressed this vision in a letter to the parish: "It is now very evident that this parish is destined to become one of the most important Catholic Centers in Arizona.

When they have a stunning new church, the best schools for boys and girls in the Southwest, and a Catholic Information Center right in the center of the capital of a great state, then those Catholics whose generosity and sacrifice have made all this possible will have reason to thank God that He gave them the opportunity to do so much at such a pivotal and important time in their history.

Faith Formation

The St. Francis Xavier community regards parents as the primary role models for instilling their faith in their children's lives, the church said.

In order to help parents and their kids develop a connection with God through prayer and deeds, St. Francis Xavier Parish is available, it added.

The church's neighborhood will put the Ignatian Family Faith Formation program into practice.

It said it wants to support parents as they spread the message and teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ while accepting the demands of discipleship in their daily lives and as active members of the Catholic Church.

It added that it also wants to enable families in the St. Francis Xavier community to explore the richness of their faith together as a family.
