History of St. Francis Xavier Parish

According to the church's website, the Catholic faith community of St. Francis Xavier pledges themselves to an ever-deepening personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which manifests itself in prayer, worship, and mission.

The church said they do this under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Through the baptismal call to be Christ for others, they are led by Ignatian principles in pursuing a faith that does justice in their daily lives, according to the church.

The church said the parish officially celebrated its 75th Anniversary of serving the heart of the Phoenix community under Pastor Russell Roide S.J.

To mark the occasion, a cookbook was created, as well as the first-ever parish photo directory, it added.

The church said that the creation of several new ministries continues to be the parish's principal priority, as does the expansion of its community service.

It added that they have come a long way to realize Frank C. Brophy's dream from 1957.

The current church was finished in 1959, according to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Community.

The church said it is already fairly evident that our parish is destined to become one of the most significant Catholic Centers in Arizona, according to Frank C. Brophy's letter to the parish during the 1957 church building campaign.

The church said they have a stunning new church, the best schools for girls and boys in the Southwest, and a Catholic Information Center right in the middle of the capital of a great state.

It added that Catholics, whose generosity and sacrifice have made all this possible, would have reason to thank God that He gave them the opportunity to do so much at such a crucial and timely point in history.
