Atlanta First United Methodist Church in Georgia called for clothing donations.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Oct. 25, the church encouraged the public to donate clothing amid the cold weather conditions.

According to the church, sweltering days and nights of summer are now giving way to the crisp autumn air.

The church said this time, once more, to serve their needy neighbors and friends at the door by assembling cold-weather goods and clothing as part of their #KeepATLWarm initiative.

It added that they may consider donating new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, blankets, and backpacks when making a clothing donation.

The church said it needs hand warmers, microwaveable soup, and emergency sleeping bags.

They can mail donations to the package address or deliver them to the church office on Sundays at 2020 Howell Mill Road NW, Suite D-339, Atlanta, GA 30318-1732), according to the church.

Additional information can be found in Atlanta First United Methodist Church’s Facebook post.

Pastors, Worshippers in Church

According to the church's website, local pastors told Atlanta First United Methodist Church that worshipers had gathered there.

The church claimed that tiny groups met in homes, warehouses on Peachtree Street and Auburn Avenue, and even the offices of the Georgia Railroad to perform services and make future plans.

The 175th anniversary of Atlanta First United Methodist Church's inception will be celebrated in 2022, according to the church's website.

Atlanta First United Methodist Church places a high value on how its past is conveyed given how long it has been a part of the community and serving God.

The church also welcomed Dr. Helen Jin Kim on Laity Sunday.

Dr. Kim, the Grow Team Leader, delivered the sermon, the church announced on Facebook.

According to the church's post, they considered Sunday, Oct. 23, as Laity Sunday.

The church said that Dr. Kim serves as an adjunct professor at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where she teaches courses on American religious history.

Church’s History

According to its website, Atlanta First United Methodist Church frequently decides to stay in the city's core because it can address the spiritual needs of both wealthy and less fortunate individuals there.

A kind man named Samuel Mitchell, it was believed, purportedly made the Methodists a handsome property offer in 1845.

The church claimed that Peachtree, Pryor, and Houston Streets make up the triangle's three sides close to the Georgia Pacific building.

It further said that there was a small wood cabin with chimneys on both ends at the location. It further mentioned that it ran as a church on Sundays and a school during the week.

Atlanta First United Methodist Church announced the opening of the Union Sabbath School, a multireligious Sunday school.

According to the church, preaching services were held for the three denominations of Presbyterians, Baptists, and Methodists.

Atlanta First United Methodist Church said sites and structures rather than specific people are assigned more value in church history even if individuals make up the majority of it.

The congregation, according to the church, treasured the years of dedication, kindness, and faith that had been made during the time of the church's first 170 years in order for it to develop and grow.
