Atlanta First United Methodist Church in Georgia announced that it is set to celebrate its 175th founding anniversary in August.

On a Facebook post, the church said it commemorates the church's years, being the oldest protestant church in the city of Atlanta.

On Sunday, Aug. 28, the church invited the public to join for the 175th anniversary celebrations centered on the theme "Forward in Faith.”

At 10 a.m., the church worship will start, according to the post. 

Following the sermon by special speaker and Atlanta native Rev. Dr. Gregory C. Ellison II, there will be food, entertainment, and a community partners fair at 12 p.m., where participants are encouraged to interact at the nexus of justice, community, and faith, the church said in the same post.

Interested participants may RSVP at the church's link so they may know how many attendees to anticipate and how much food to order, according to the church.

Trivia Hang

Atlanta First United Methodist Church has announced plans for a "Trivia Hang" on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

The news was posted on Facebook by the church.

According to the church's post, on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m., the general public is welcome to participate in trivia with other youngish adults at Monday Night Garage.

No special insight or understanding was needed, the religious article stated.

It said that it is more about having fun than competing, which is a great way to meet new, caring people in a safe setting. The church added that anyone is welcome to join the group.

School Supplies Donation

Atlanta First United Methodist Church in Georgia asked for donations of school materials to help students in the approaching academic year.

On Thursday, July 7, Atlanta First United Methodist Church issued an appeal for contributions of school supplies.

The following week, donations would be sent to the Wellroot Family Services, according to the church.

Construction paper, notebook paper, washable markers, highlighters, index cards, pens, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, USB flash drives, headphones, rulers, and scientific calculators are among the items the church said most urgently needed.

Meanwhile, Atlanta First United Methodist Church announced that a portion of donations made to the #SERVE mission at atlantafirstumc.org/give would be utilized to buy school supplies.

The church said Boyce L. Ansley School and Wellroot Family Services will receive school supplies and uniforms on Aug. 28 as part of the United Methodist Church's 175 Kick-Off Celebration, which was previously announced.
