Church’s Beliefs, Mission, Vision

The religious group embraces everyone with extraordinary hospitality, according to the church's website

Atlanta First United Methodist Church said it believes that they were created in the lovely image of God.

They claim that it is true whether they are young or old, light, medium, or dark-skinned, living with a disability or able-bodied, have it all together or have nothing together, are poor in resources or have plenty, are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) or identify as straight, according to the church.

They are asked to take part in all facets of this church's existence and are loved, welcomed, and accepted.

Atlanta First United Methodist Church said it exists to worship God, serve others, advance as a community, and engage Atlanta and beyond, the church said.

The church said it is set to change the world as they have a mission to make disciples of Jesus.

First and foremost, United Methodists are Christians who hold the same fundamental convictions as all other Christian denominations worldwide: that God, the Father, is our creator; that He interacts with and through everyone in the person of the Holy Spirit; and that His Son, Jesus Christ, came into the world, died on the cross, and was raised from the dead to save humanity from sin.

The goal of methodism is to encourage individuals to live obediently as Christians and to grow in their knowledge and love of God, according to the church. The church said it put a lot of emphasis on practicing what John Wesley called "practical divinity," or living out one's faith and love.

Church’s History

In 2022, Atlanta First United Methodist Church will commemorate its 175th anniversary, according to the church.

The church said its tale has come to mean a lot to them because of how long they have served God and the community. Over the years, a variety of fascinating and well-known locals have worshiped with everyone.

Its history began with early missionary endeavors, according to the church. The church said Atlanta was originally known as Marthasville, a little railroad community that served as the terminus for four train lines that were then being built.

Preachers in the area were collecting groups for services, the church said.

It added that mall groups held services and discussed future plans during meetings in private residences, warehouses on Peachtree Street and Auburn Avenue, and even the Georgia Railroad offices.
