The young adults of the Buckhead Church will join the Atlanta Mission 5K walk on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Pemberton Place Greenspace.
The church’s Facebook page announced they will work with the Atlanta Mission to raise funds and awareness to help cease homelessness in their city.
Besides, they posted that there would be a $40 registration fee, and all would go to the Atlanta Mission.
Young Adults Ministry
The church’s website explained that the Buckhead Young Adults (BYA) is a perfect venue for individuals in their twenties to experience the city and meet the people they belong to.
They stated that anyone in their twenties until 29 years old is welcome to join the BYA.
According to them, this ministry is an excellent opportunity for young adults to grow in their faith. They added that they hold programs every month. The website explained that they conduct three kinds of events as Social, Service, and Scripture.
As further mentioned, this program is a simple and unique way to relate, learn, and develop together.
Reality Revelation
The Atlanta Mission website revealed that the need has never been more vital in Atlanta. They exposed that 750 people sleep on the streets every night in Atlanta. Over 3,300 young people are suffering from homelessness, as added on the website.
More importantly, they stated that half of the young people are aging out of the foster system and would suffer from being homeless within six months.
In another section, they pointed out that more than one-third of the state’s homeless population consider Atlanta their home.
According to them, of those marginalized individuals, including children, 81% of them have suffered from physical or sexual abuse. They noted that 58% have reported experiencing the symptoms of trauma.
In addition, 57% of these vulnerable individuals have a chronic medical condition, and over half suffer from loneliness or isolation.
Consequently, 46% of the population do not have jobs or are under-employed. Besides, the website reported that 28% of these homeless individuals are addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Atlanta Mission’s Solution
The transformation model section revealed that more than 1,600 individuals came to Atlanta Mission last year. They explained that through their emergency services, they seek to meet their basic needs, including housing, food, showers, and laundry facilities.
Moreover, the Atlanta Mission offers stability and a venue to establish relationships, as noted on the website. They stated that once they meet their necessities, their staff teams would work to triage and evaluate any other immediate needs.
Choosing to Help
On the same website, Atlanta Mission noted that their ambassadors establish connections and trust with clients.
They mentioned that once their client has decided they want to deal with the underlying cause of their homelessness, they would finish a comprehensive needs assessment to know the next step.
In addition, the website states that the Atlanta Mission utilizes an interdisciplinary team to execute its personalized service in five primary aspects. These areas include physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and vocational.
More importantly, they aim to help their clients become rooted in their community and have employee retention to become eligible for housing programs.
