First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta to hold young couples group for fellowship, study

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta announced that it is set to hold a young couples group for fellowship and study.

According to the church’s post, the group is open to individuals in their 20s and 30s who are interested in fellowship and study.

The church said the group will gather in a member’s home on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Succeeding meeting dates will be available soon, according to the church.

Church’s Mission

According to the church’s website, First Presbyterian Church is a group of humbly Christ-followers who have made the decision, by God's grace, to live by love, pursue ongoing change, and empower everyone to serve as servant leaders in Atlanta and around the globe.

The church said among the many local outreach initiatives, First Presbyterian Church has a 35-year tradition of serving breakfast to 250 homeless people every Sunday.

It said that they also provide up to 12 women with secure lodging and support through the campus' Women's Transformation Center.

The church said it is home to the Southeast's oldest continuously operating preschool, which was established 70 years ago.

First Presbyterian Church said it enjoys close ties to the neighborhood's cultural institutions, such as the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Design Atlanta, the Alliance Theater, the Atlanta Symphony, and the Atlanta Opera among others. 

Through these alliances, the church frequently presents performances and activities, according to the church.

Plans and ideas for the installation of stained glass windows were created by Pastor Dr. Lyons, the church said. 

The church said 10 windows that surround the sanctuary's floor depict the biblical narrative from Abraham to the apostles' work to promote Christianity following Christ's death and resurrection.

There are four locations with a total of twenty windows, it explained. The church said there are seven Tiffany windows, four D'Ascenzo windows, and nine Willet windows.

Urban Church

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, which was established in 1848, is situated next to the Woodruff Arts Center at the intersection of Peachtree and 16th Streets, according to the church

It said that it is an urban church renowned for being a pioneer in worship, spiritual development, service, fostering ties within the community, and the arts. 

The church has celebrated various significant milestones and is made up of many families that have contributed to the development of this community. 

As they anticipate its 175th Anniversary in 2023, First Presbyterian Church continues to build on these traditions, it added.

On May 29, 2020, First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta was added to the National Register of Historic Places, the church said.
