Church’s Mission

No matter if they are new to Atlanta, the church, or are seeking a new church home, Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church said it appreciated that they are considering their congregation.

The mission of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church is to love God and love others with all of the beings, including the heart, mind, soul, and strength, according to the church.

The church said they think that everyone has intrinsic worth and dignity as a part of God's creation, just as Jesus loved those around him.

Regardless of color, culture, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or socioeconomic status, education, politics, physical or mental ability, or religious background are welcome into the entire life and ministry of the community, the church said.

By sharing the good news of God's grace and living out Jesus' teaching to love one's neighbor as oneself, the church seeks to bring about God's dominion and realm in the world.

Their mission is accomplished by making disciples of Jesus Christ for the change of the world, according to the church.

The vision Scripture presents to everyone is the completion of God's reign and realm in the world.

Jesus Christ is recognized by the United Methodist Church as the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of all, the church stated.

The church said it respects people of all religious beliefs as they develop disciples, and they stand up for freedom of religion for everybody.

Church’s Identity

A firmly established and expanding Christian community called the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church can be found on the Emory University campus in Atlanta's famed Druid Hills district.

The congregation is made up of people of all ages, ranging in ages from two to 102.

The church said it provides ministries that encourage a sense of community and belonging for everyone through worship, service, instruction, and hospitality.

They can trace our roots as a United Methodist congregation to John Wesley, an Anglican priest serving in the Church of England in the 1700s, according to the church.

The Societies of "Methodists," so named because their members adhered to a daily schedule of religious observance and charitable work were established.

These societies later moved to Ireland and eventually to America, where they were formally recognized as a separate denomination in 1784, the church said.

The church said that currently there are around 11 million United Methodists in the world.
