Church’s History
According to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, there are around 11 million United Methodists worldwide.
The church claims that for United Methodists, social responsibility and faith have always been intertwined.
The church also cited its partnerships with Emory University's Office of Spirituality & Religious Life as examples of how it engages with various Christian faiths and religions and sustains an ecumenical tradition.
The founding of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church as a United Methodist congregation is attributed to John Wesley, an Anglican priest serving the Church of England in the 1700s.
The church claimed that its members' regular attendance at religious services and volunteer work were to blame for the expansion of "Methodist" organizations.
The societies eventually made their way to America, where the church formally recognized them as a separate denomination in 1784.
