Lindsay Street Baptist Church celebrated its 110th anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 4.

In a Facebook post, the church invited its members and attendees to celebrate the day with them.

Based on the Lindsay Street Baptist Church's live stream, the church celebrated through a worship service packed with testimonies of leaders and elders. Each shared how God blessed their faithfulness as they served the Christian community.

Aside from testimonies, the church choir also added to the festive vibe of virtual worship.

110th Church Anniversary

According to the website, Lindsay Street Baptist Church Family has come a long way from its brush arbor origins. The English Avenue Community has been gathering to worship the Almighty God near the intersection of Lindsay Street and North Avenue since 1912.

Mother Moore and Reverend Tillman were parts of the church's beginnings.

Lindsay Street Church evolved from a storefront structure to a white shingle structure, and it was formerly known as the Greenwood Baptist Church due to the lovely vegetation around the gathering place, the page bared.

Its name was changed along with the new structure. Its first pastor was Reverend E.S. Swanson. All those who could hear the bell's ringing was invited to join in fellowship in the Lord's house by hanging it in the tower. The website revealed that baptism services were conducted in the creek that flows through the North Avenue Woods.

Under  Reverend Hines and Y.L., the church grew and prospered after the passing of Reverend Swanson. Davenport. The page said Lindsay Street Church hired Reverend H.M. Alexander as its shepherd in 1950.

The site reads that Lindsay Street Church concentrated on God's actual purpose and will while receiving divine spiritual direction from Reverend Alexander and God's abundant blessings.

Lindsay Street Church aimed to rescue lost souls, establish a Christian community, boost membership, and construct a structure that would be acceptable to God. The cornerstone for the church was laid in 1951, and it was finished with God's guidance and protection, the website bared.

In his 27th year of service, Pastor Alexander fell unwell, necessitating the appointment of Reverend Danny Nance as an assistant pastor. Only briefly did Reverend Nance hold the position of pastor, the site said.

Rev. Anthony A.W. Motley served at the Lindsay Street Church in 1980. The website revealed that many Christian preachers and leaders had used Lindsay Street as their spiritual home under Pastor Motley's guidance.

The membership continues to grow as we travel the paths God has laid for this congregation. Pastor Motley sees God's vision and continues building the community through his powerful preaching and teaching ministries, the about page reads.

Lindsay Street Church was directed to minister to God's people's needs outside the church's four walls by acting as a lighthouse for the English Avenue Community, as per the website.

It aspires to carry out through the establishment of the English Avenue Community Development Corporation, the Tuesday Night Men's Ministry, the Evangelistic Outreach Team, the New Members Committee, the Early Sunday Morning Worship, and numerous other ministries the will of God, according to the history page.

The church executives and Pastor Motley started constructing a new structure in the neighborhood. The church is currently reaping the rewards of its efforts. The website reads that it entered and dedicated its new horizon building at 550 Lindsay Street on September 9, 2001.
