The North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, has set to host a free voter education class on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The North Avenue Presbyterian Church said the classes and parking would be free and open to the public.

Blood Donation Drive

Last Thursday, Sept. 30, the North Avenue Presbyterian Church organized a blood donation drive to alleviate the country's shortage.

Qualified donors were invited to donate blood in the North Avenue Presbyterian Church's Gym on Thursday, according to a Facebook post on Thursday, Sept. 23.

According to the church, the North Avenue Presbyterian Church acknowledged the country's urgent blood supply shortfall due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

According to its Facebook post, the church also sought public assistance during difficult times.

Those interested in donating blood can find additional information on the church's Facebook page.

Blood Donation Classifications

The Red Cross Blood organization explained that whole blood donation is the most versatile way of donation.

According to the Red Cross, it can be transfused whole or broken down into its components of red cells, plasma, and platelets, which can subsequently be used to heal various illnesses.

According to the Red Cross, whole blood is provided to trauma victims and those having surgery regularly.

The Red Cross said during a Power Red donation, the donor gives a concentrated dose of red cells, which are the part of the donor's blood that is used every day for patients who require transfusions.

It added that this donation method uses an automated process to separate red blood cells from other blood components before securely and comfortably returning the donor's plasma and platelets.

The organization explained that red cells from a Power Red donation are frequently provided to trauma patients, babies and emergency transfusions after birth, sickle cell anemia sufferers, and anyone suffering from blood loss.

In most areas, the donor must be 17 years old or older to donate whole blood, according to the Red Cross.

According to the Red Cross, in states where 16-year-olds are allowed to give, the Red Cross demands a signed parental agreement form.

The organization's website stated that the donor must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health, which means they feel fine and can generally go about their everyday life.

If a donor has a chronic illness, such as diabetes, it's vital to treat and control the condition before donating blood.
