The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia remembered members who died in 2021.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Jan. 4, the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church said the United Methodist News Service featured some of the well-known United Methodists who died in the previous 12 months.

North Georgia United Methodists Senator Max Cleland, an active layman, and Rev. George E. Morris, founding director of the World Methodist Evangelism Institute, are featured in the feature article, according to the post.

The church said Senator Johnny Isakson, who died after the list was published, will be included next year for remembrance.

Those who wish to see the 39 names of remembrance, listed in order of date of death may visit the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church’s Facebook post.

Church’s History

According to its website, the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church has nearly 800 churches, more than 1,300 clergy members, and approximately 340,000 lay members.

It aims to train moral Christian leaders, engage in poor-relations ministry, enhance global health, advocate for justice, respond to disasters, and achieve the denomination's purpose of "making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."

On the same website, it says it is currently the largest United Methodist Conference in the United States.

Structure and Leadership

The North Georgia Conference is a United Methodist Church regional body, according to the church’s website.

The church said Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson oversees the North Georgia Conference, which is divided into eight smaller geographical divisions known as "districts." Atlanta is the Conference's headquarters.

Once a year, in June, the North Georgia Annual Conference brings together laity and clergy from the North Georgia Conference for business and worship.

Among Related Organizations

According to the church, two United Methodist theological institutions and nine United Methodist-related colleges and universities are located in the state.

Meanwhile, the Glisson Camp and Retreat Center in Dahlonega, as well as Grow Day Camps hosted at local United Methodist churches, are engaged in the North Georgia Conference's camp and retreat ministry.

Among the groups collaborating is Action Ministries, Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers, Wellroot, North Georgia Conference Housing and Homeless Council, Wesley Woods Senior Living, Aldersgate Homes/Collinswood, and others.

Advent-Neighbors National Advertising Campaign

The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church in Atlanta has launched a national advertising campaign called Advent-Neighbors to encourage people to interact with the church over the holiday season.

The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church announced on Facebook on Friday, Dec. 3 that it has begun an Advent-Neighbors national advertising campaign to inspire communities to connect with hope and joy in the United Methodist Church this Advent season.

United Methodist Communications, the denomination's global communications agency, has launched an Advent-Neighbors national advertising campaign to help people escape the holiday blues and reconnect with the actual source of pleasure and love.

The campaign will include social media, paid search, and display marketing. To begin their journey with the United Methodist Church, people will be directed to one of two limited-time landing sites at UMC.org/Joy or UMC.org/JoyEnFamilia.
