The St. Paul United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, has hosted a youth retreat camp in Rooted Retreat at Camp Glisson on Saturday.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Oct. 16, the St. Paul United Methodist Church said its youth group was off to Camp Glisson for the Rooted Retreat.

Among the attendees were nine youth and four adults who had fun this weekend, the church wrote on the post.

Meanwhile, in a separate Facebook post on Sunday, Oct. 17, the church said the youth group has returned from the retreat and shared their experiences in the Sunday worship.

The St. Paul United Methodist Church said they continue to pray for the safety of the attendees in the retreat camp.

Retreat Camp

The Glisson Camp and Retreat Center, where the St. Paul United Methodist Church had its retreat camp, offered summer camp and year-round Retreat experiences in the forests surrounding Cane Creek Falls near Dahlonega, Georgia.

Since 1925, millions of people have had their faith strengthened by God's presence in creation and Christian society, and this location has become holy ground, according to the camp's website.

The website stated the Glisson is a member of the United Methodist Church's North Georgia Conference's North Georgia Camp and Retreat Ministries.

According to the camp's website, while searching the area for a youth camp, Methodist priest Rev. Fred Glisson came across Cane Creek Falls.

It said the inaugural camp was held in the summer of 1925, with campers sleeping on straw-filled mattresses in crude wooden cottages. Water had to be brought from a local spring, and cooking was done on wood fires, it added.

Rev. Glisson and other community leaders donated funds to purchase land near the falls and build a permanent camp, the website shared.

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, the original cottages, Dining Hall, Old Rec Hall, and Chapel were constructed. In 1946, the camp purchased Cane Creek Falls from Georgia Power for $1500.

It added that under the supervision of Trout Unlimited, Glisson has worked to rebuild the banks along Cane Creek. The building of a wetlands area near the Outpost camp is one project.

Church's 'Trick or Treat' event

The St. Paul United Methodist Church has also invited the public to join in a "Trick or Treat" event for a Halloween celebration on Sunday, Oct. 31.

According to its Facebook post on Thursday, Oct. 14, the church encouraged the public to join the Halloween celebration after worship on Sunday.

The St. Paul United Methodist shared that the event would have hotdogs and drinks for kids and adults.

The post read that children will also be given time to change into their costumes for the "trick or treating" event at 1 p.m.

The participants would take a "trick or treating" tour around the outside of the church structure, with themed tables, according to the church.

Participants were also urged to dress up in innovative and amusing costumes, according to the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
