New Hope Baptist Church inviting congregation for historic 1-week celebration of 100th anniversary

The New Hope Baptist Church in Denver, Co., is currently celebrating its century of existence this month with a one-week event.

New Hope Baptist Church Centennial Celebration

The church announced the celebration on Facebook that is taking place from Sunday, Aug. 14, until Sunday, Aug. 21, at the church premises.

The celebrations reportedly started with a worship kickoff followed by a reunion, concert, parade, tour, and more. New Hope invited all its members, past, and present, to join in the festivities.

As explained, all the church members gathered to witness the congregation's 'Centennial Anniversary Worship Finale and Luncheon,' happening on the last day of the event. 

The luncheon reportedly includes a special presentation for the members of the church.

New Hope Baptist Church - Denver

The New Hope Baptist Church – Denver is a church that serves God and the community. 

Its Facebook page said that the church envisions itself as a congregation that inspires hope in Christ for the community.

The church offers a mixed contemporary and traditional gospel with Christ-centered and dynamic centered.

It offers Sunday service at 10:45 p.m. every week and a bible study every Tuesday.

The church is a member of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Inc., and the American Baptist Churches.

Rev. Eugene Downing, D. Min.

Rev. Eugene Downing, D. Min. is the senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church – Denver. 

On his Linkedin page, it said that the pastor is experienced and is committed to providing "theologically sound, socially-relevant preaching, comprehensive community engagement, and mission work."

The page said that the pastor has been leading the church since October 2011. Before his current post, he served the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church.

He is also an author and professor affiliated with the likes of Eden Theological Ministry, Point Park University, and Virginia Union University.

The pastor holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Master of Divinity Degree in Practical Theology from the Virginia Union University. Also, he holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Inc.

According to the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Inc.'s page, it is the country's "oldest and largest African American religious convention with an estimated membership of 7.5 million."

The denomination said that its mission is to fulfill the Great Commission, the commandment of Jesus Christ given to the disciples and the church to spread the Word of God and baptize people.

As per the convention's history, it was a combination of three bodies--- the Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, the National Baptist Convention of America, and the National Baptist Education Convention. 

The merger happened in 1895 at a meeting at the Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta. Through the merger, Rev. E. C. Morris became the convention's first president.

Through the years, the convention has been served by esteemed leaders such as Dr. L. K. Williams, Dr. J. H. Jackson, and Dr. William J. Shaw, among others.

Today, the organization is led by the 18th president Dr. Jerry Young.
