The Faith Center Church in Sunrise, Florida, along with non-profit organizations, doctors, and other Miami institutions, joined to hold its 'Back to School Health and Wellness Fair' event.

According to CBS News, the event happened on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Charles L. Williams Community Center. 

It had the organizations and doctors provide the upcoming students with the school supplies that they needed. It also featured crafts and super slides, free, along with the supplies.

Further, as the event's name suggests, the other main focus was to ensure that the students were healthy and provided with checkups. 

With that said, the event had dental checkups courtesy of the Angels for Humanity organization.

Some of the sponsors of the event expressed their concern about the poverty rate in the area. 

The report said that the poverty rate in Overtown was at 39% when it was only 12% in South Miami back in 2016. Furthermore, the report also pointed out the fact that the income of Overtown is lower than that of South Miami.

It further said that the problem has not improved and that with the diseases that the country and the world faced, the low-income families became bigger.

Ptr. Henry Fernandez of the Faith Center Church Sunrise said that he felt happiness and fulfillment from the smiles of the children helped out by the fair.

Faith Center Ministries International

The Faith Center Ministries International was founded by Henry and Carol Fernandez in 1991. Back then, the church served Brooklyn, New York, under the name Plantation Worship Center.

Since the ministry's move to Fort Lauderdale, the church grew, and by 2002, it already had 10,000 members attending the Sunrise Musical Theater.

According to its church page, the Faith Center has the mission of reaching out to people for Jesus Christ through teachings and proclamation.

Also, it said that the church is dedicated to providing people with problems and issues with the proper environment to help them heal and restore their relationships.

The church also puts a premium on the spiritual growth of its members. For this cause, it provides bible studies, conferences, seminars, and other programs at the University of Fort Lauderdale and the Henry B. Fernandez Institute for Biblical Studies.

Henry Fernandez

Ptr. Henry Fernandez is a minister with over three decades of experience in the pulpit. The church said that the pastor started his ministry work in 1985.

Before giving his life for the work of God, the pastor had a career in the travel industry. Today, he uses his business and leadership skills to help the church and the congregation.

Apart from serving as the senior pastor of the church, he is also the president of his own ministry, the Henry Fernandez Ministries. He is also the chancellor of the University of Fort Lauderdale.

Besides all that, the pastor is also an established author with over 13 books under his belt. He is also known for his work as a guest speaker on TV and radio.
