The Miami Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (MACCW) recognized Ana Rodriguez-Soto, the editor of the Spanish newspaper published by the Archdiocese of Miami, for her continuous support of their efforts in supporting education in the archdiocese.

The luncheon, which took place on Saturday, Feb. 25, served as the annual fundraiser for the scholarship fund maintained by the MACCW.

The fund provides financial assistance to girls who have completed the eighth grade and wish to continue their studies at a Catholic high school.

According to the Archdiocese of Miami, Ana Rodriguez-Soto genuinely appreciates the recognition because she most certainly supports Catholic education and is a product of it.

She received his education at Immaculate Conception School in Hialeah, Msgr. Edward Pace High in Miami Gardens and Barry University in Miami Shores.

As mentioned, she was a young college student looking for a summer job when she was pushed in the direction of La Voz Católica, the Spanish newspaper of the Archdiocese of Miami, by her high school guidance counselor.

Its editor at the time was on sabbatical, and the guidance counselor believed Rodriguez-expertise Soto's on the high school newspaper made her a perfect candidate for the position.

She joined La Voz as interim editor in the summer of 1979 and, in a sense, never left.

Continuous learning has been a way of life for Rodriguez-Soto, who has spent the better part of four decades pursuing a career in journalism.

As a reporter for the archdiocesan newspapers, the Florida Catholic Miami edition, and La Voz Católica, and later as an editor for those newspapers, she has served as the readers' eyes and ears while reporting on the Catholic Church in South Florida, as well as while on assignment in Cuba, Germany, Haiti, Poland, and Rome.

Specifically, she has covered the Church in South Florida. As an editor, she has urged the rest of her staff, freelancers, and photographers to follow suit.

During her career, journalism has allowed her to teach others while expanding her knowledge. Those who are good journalists are naturally curious. They are curious as to the reasons, as well as the how, who, and what.

Rodriguez-Soto addressed over 180 individuals gathered for the annual scholarship luncheon hosted by the Miami Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Through its membership, MACCW supports all Catholic women, empowers them, and educates them in spirituality, leadership, and service.

Through participation in its various activities, members of MACCW respond with gospel ideals to the demands placed on the Church and society in today's modern world.

Since its founding in 1958, they have made it its mission to serve the churches and communities of South Florida, specifically in the counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe.

It aims to unite all Catholic Women's Organizations in this Archdiocese to establish a unified purpose, direction, and course of action in religion, education, society, and the economy.

MACCW also lends full support to the pronouncements and activities of the United States Bishops Conference, extending assistance in those endeavors.
