Destino Central Florida recently encouraged its Latino and Hispanic students to be the change the world needs. The Christian organization is inspiring its youth to become God-driven leaders in the community.
Sense of Home, Comfort
In a report with The Orlando Sentinel, the Christian organization has become a comfort for many Christian Hispanic and Latino students. Destino Central Florida could be found at the University of Central Florida's campus.
The Christian organization aims to raise a generation of leaders who dare to change the world. Destino Central Florida hopes to do that through culture and religion.
Destino Central Florida is open to all students, faculty, and staff of the University of Central Florida. Members are also invited to attend events to help them in their faith journey.
Drawing People Closer to God
The Christian organization said these events would help them grow closer to God and hone their leadership skills.
Chelsea Bihare told the news outlet that Destino Central Florida wants to help people grow in their faith. Bihare is a staff member at the Christian organization.
She added that the organization also works to show people how to grow in their faith and their love for Jesus. Bihare said that she and the other staff members want their members to grow in their culture.
According to the website, Destino Central Florida also has an office at UCF Downtown and Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The Christian organization could also be found at USF, Valencia college campuses, and Seminole State.
Combining Christianity and Culture
Bihare believes that Destino Central Florida is different from other religious groups. She says that what sets them apart is how they combine Christianity and culture.
She pointed out that there were not a lot of groups on campus who talked about culture. Bihare was glad that they could combine Jesus and then culture.
The Christian organization holds a Bible study group once every week. They also host gatherings that serve Hispanic foods and featured Salsa dancing on one occasion.
Bihare explained that they wanted to get the students excited about embracing their Latino or Hispanic culture.
Welcoming Challenges
Brianna Lizardi was one of those who felt the impact of the Christian organization. She is a senior biomedical sciences student.
Lizardi shared that she joined Destino Central Florida when she was a freshman. It was her friend who convinced her to join the organization.
She explained that she wanted to find a group of individuals who shared the same beliefs as she did. The senior said that she also wanted to learn the Bible and grow in her faith.
Lizardi is currently under the discipleship of a staff member. She stressed the importance of having people who challenged her.
The senior explained that she needed to grow in her faith as a Christian. She found it essential because she knew that she could not always stay in her comfort zone.
Bihare shared that being around those who embraced their culture made her appreciate hers. She was glad to be part of an organization that helped her develop a sense of appreciation for her roots.
