FOX 35 Good Day Orlando Anchor Amy Kaufeldt recently shared that she found a lump on her breast. She addressed the public that she has cancer.
According to Fox News, the news anchor decided to see a doctor on the matter.
Devastating News
Her doctor reportedly ordered a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy. She said she received the bad news one week later, and the doctor confirmed cancer.
According to Kaufeldt, the lump on her breast was not visible on her mammogram. She explained that the lump was seen on the ultrasound.
She added that an MRI scan showed a tumor on the other breast. The news anchor told the public that she has cancer in both breasts.
Be Cautious
She warned women everywhere not to settle for a mammogram when they find a lump on their breast. Kaufeldt urged them to ask for an ultrasound as 50 percent of all women had dense breast tissue.
The news anchor pointed out that her mammogram was clean, and yet it was discovered that she had breast cancer. She urged women like her to be cautious when it came to their health because one's life could change in an instant.
She said that she was fortunate that her cancer was detected early on. Her doctor assured her that she was at "grade one," which meant she would have to have surgery.
The news anchor told her fans that her surgery was scheduled for early June. She explained that she would be out for several weeks to recover and gather strength.
Faith in God
She admitted that she was nervous about the whole thing, but she was placing her faith in God. The news anchor added that she knew she was in the hands of capable doctors.
She asked that the public keep her in their prayers.
Kaufeldt said she was grateful for the support of her family, friends, and co-workers who supported her. She knew that she was not alone in her ordeal.
She urged men and women to have themselves examined if they felt that something was wrong. Kaufeldt pointed out that men could get breast cancer too.
Breast Cancer Symptoms
According to Breastcancer.org, symptoms often vary. Many of those who experienced it would report seeing lumps on their breasts and seeing swelling. Some would even report skin changes.
The website said that many breast cancers have no obvious symptoms. In some cases, a lump may be too small for one to notice changes on their own.
According to the website, women are urged to perform a monthly breast self-exam. They explained that this is to ensure that one becomes familiar with their breasts.
Doing so would give women a better chance of noticing any changes. Women are also urged to visit their doctor once they experience breast changes.
Women over 40 often have a high risk of breast cancer. The website advised having an annual mammogram and physical exam by a doctor.
They said that when breast cancer is detected early, there would be more chances of having a successful treatment.
