An old couple from Rockledge, Florida, was both recently found dead behind a local church. Investigators revealed that the couple might have died due to the extreme heat in the area.

Mystery Death of Couple

On Wednesday, June 15, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office found two bodies behind the Hope United Church of Christ in the Fiske Lake Estate neighborhood off of Fiske Boulevard in Rockledge.

The next day, the police finally identified the bodies with the names of a married couple, David Horn, 89, and Martha Horn, 84.

As per Fox 35 news, the sheriff’s office first heard about the missing case of the old married couple when their daughter reported it to the police. A surveillance video camera revealed that the couple was together around 11 a.m., which was the last time that the couple was seen.

The findings of the investigation said that the couple’s death was not involved in any criminal activity. Instead, the Horns likely died due to the extreme heat in the area.

Heat Emergencies to Know

As per WUSF Public Media, a heat advisory was announced in Florida during the week when investigators found the two bodies. The advisory was reported due to the stifling temperature in the area.

It was estimated that the temperature rose to near 110 degrees during that week. Due to this, the local government also reminded everyone to stay at home as much as possible.

According to Healthline, heat emergencies usually occur during days and weeks of hot temperature within an area. Older adults are some of the people who are most likely to experience negative things in their bodies when it’s hot.

Aside from them, people who are overweight, people who have been drinking alcohol, and even children, can suffer the most during a very hot temperature.

Some of the signs of having a heat emergency are when a person feels heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, which is the worst. As explained, once a heat emergency occurs, it is highly advisable to immediately call 911 to request hospital assistance.

People suffering from heat emergencies should not be given anything to drink, only when they are vomiting or unconscious. In line with that, anything with alcohol or caffeine should not be given to them as well.

Who Is This Mystery Couple?

As per the Atlantic Mortuary, the old couple had resided in Rockledge, Florida, since 1962. They are survived by their two children: David Horn Jr. and Carol Stansfield, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Before they died, the old couple was reportedly active in attending services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church/School. David was even one of the volunteers at the ‘Christ Renews’ ministry of the church.

As beloved members of the church, St. Mary’s will host the funeral Mass for the couple, happening on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations and flowers are highly encouraged to donate to the said funeral service. All the friends and families of the couple are also requested to attend the service.
