What is Veteran's Day?
According to a report with USA Today, Veterans Day commemorates the day when Germany and the Allies signed a 1918 agreement to end World War I.
The report said the war ended on the "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month." Back then, the celebration was known as Armistice Day.
Special Discounts
USA Today also reported that veterans could avail themselves of free meals or discounts in participating restaurants across the country on Thursday, Nov. 11.
The establishments usually ask for proof of service, such as a military ID. There are also a few businesses that allow dressing in uniform as proof of identification.

The president added that many of the country's military personnel endured not only physical wounds but "unseen psychological wounds of war."
