Organizations and Enon Tabernacle Church in Philadelphia hosted Black Maternal Health Summit on Saturday to support moms in the area.

As the mortality rate grew among pregnant mothers, the community gathered to show support by offering gifts to mommies.

Maternal Mortality Rates in the US

According to the World Health Organization, maternal death is 'the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, regardless of the duration and site of the pregnancy.'

The CDC said there were 1,205 maternal deaths in the United States in 2021, up from 861 the previous year and 754 in 2019.

In 2021, there were 32.9 deaths among pregnant women for every 100,000 babies born. It was higher than the rates of 23.8 in 2020 and 20.1 in 2019.

To save moms in Philadelphia, organizations such as MOM Congress and World Vision, among others, gathered at Enon Tabernacle Church to provide support amid the increasing maternal mortality rate.

By providing practical aids like diaper bags stocked with wipes and vitamins, the event helped new and expectant parents feel confident that they have everything they need to raise healthy, happy children, FOX29 reported.

Aside from that, the all-day event featured informative speakers, useful resource booths, free health screenings, tasty mocktails, and fun, relaxed areas for the mothers to unwind.

The Rev. Dr. Alyn Waller emphasized that the congregation of Enon Tabernacle Church values its members' physical and spiritual well-being.

According to Waller, women are disproportionately affected by poor medical care because of gender bias in diagnosis and treatment. The report said every mother deserves the joy of giving birth to and raising a healthy child, and it's what everyone wishes for.

About Enon Tabernacle Church

Enon Tabernacle Church is a Christian church with two campuses on West Coulter Street and West Cheltenham Avenue in Philadelphia. The church offers various ministries for all ages, including Elevation Community, Commission Community, and many more.

Its Elevation Community is where young people can grow spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in preparation for adulthood. It also gives young people a chance to worship God through singing and getting ready to hear God's Word. They have fun together, grow their knowledge of God's Word, and receive encouragement in their Christian walk.

Elevation Community at Enon Tabernacle Church organizes, discovers, plans, and carries out activities allowing the YA Ministry to meet. They also get to know local college students and keep Enon members who may be away at college in touch with the YA Ministry and the local church.

Meanwhile, by meeting the needs of a hurting humanity and winning souls for Christ, Commission Community Mission is where the church may grow in both its missionary reach and its evangelistic impact. They also work with churches in South Africa and Kenya, East Africa, to assess those communities' needs, provide direct aid, and support the gospel's spread.

They also work with Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua to support and help local volunteers as they construct and repair houses in the country.
