Inclusive Community of Faith

God is creating the kind of welcoming and inclusive community of faith that this world needs at First Church, according to the church's website.

The church said Jesus provides sound advice for everyone to pursue their faith. Love their neighbor as themselves and the Lord their God with all of their heart, soul, and mind.

The First United Methodist Church of Phoenix said it works to deepen the love of God and neighbor among all guests and members.

To experience this growing love for oneself, the church invited the public to join for worship, study, service, or fellowship.

Church’s Mission

By engaging in mission, they are exposing themselves to all the internal transformations that occur as a result of the desire to help others, according to the church.

The church said it implies that they understand, in God's eyes, they need to change just as much as the individuals they are trying to help.

The First United Methodist Church encourages fresh ideas and offers a variety of ways to get involved in missions in Phoenix and elsewhere.

Music Department Program

First Church's music program has a long history of diversity and brilliance, the church said.

The church said it thinks that the primary means by which the adoration is elevated, and their hearts are transformed, is through music.

It added that they offer a space for everyone, young or old, who enjoys traditional or contemporary worship music, whether they are trained musicians or just have a heart for praise.

At 11 a.m., the traditional adult choir, which has around 40 members, leads the service, according to the church.

The church said during the Traditional Worship Service every Sunday, they give classic anthems, and on concerts and other important occasions, they perform sizable orchestral works.

Church’s History

The church said they may trace the roots in the United Methodist Church back to John Wesley, an Anglican priest from the eighteenth century who managed to combine his traditional high church Anglicanism with evangelical faith and a kind disposition.

The First United Methodist Church of Phoenix said they strictly adhere to this custom.

Windows from the former downtown church returned to First Church in 2008 and 2009 after spending many years in other sites throughout the city, according to the church.

The church said it is quite fortunate that this relic from the past is still there in the contemporary house of worship.
