Midtown Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, Arizona has created a new devotional series on “Resisting a Throwaway Culture.”
On a Facebook post on Saturday, July 30, the church referred to Mother Teresa's essay about working for peace, facing catastrophes like pollution, the degradation of human bodies, the disregard for refugees, and the absence of care for the poor, among others.
Midtown Presbyterian Church said her writings show how she views the scourge of throwaway culture that plagues humanity in general and the West in particular.
The church said people live in a world where undesirable things and undesirable people are discarded, ignored, or passed over.
The economic, political, social, and occasionally even religious spheres reflect this forgetfulness of the shared ownership of one another, according to the church.
The church wondered what people can do in a world like this. It also pondered where the church can start to change the disposable culture.
According to the church, the Bible's pages offer a wealth of knowledge that can assist in understanding and navigating these issues.
The church said throwaway cultures are not a recent phenomenon in human history as they went through the pages and tales of the bible.
It added that they discovered the wisdom of God and Jesus, explicitly addressing related historical dynamics and offering a method to deal with them in their own times.
This led the church to create a new devotional series in conjunction with its upcoming sermon entitled, “(Non)Disposable: Resisting A Throwaway Culture.”
The church invited the public to visit its Facebook page for more information and references on the said devotional series.
Church’s Mission
According to the church’s website, its goal is to encourage individuals into a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
The church said they welcome both spiritual seekers and believers here. No matter where a person is in their spiritual development, they want to provide a place they can call home. They would like to greet everyone.
It explained that they put a high value on coming together for play, learning, service, and rest because they understand that a complete and free human existence is best lived in a community.
