Tanner Chapel AME Church in Phoenix, Arizona invites public to join in celebrating Rev. Thomas's 31st pastoral appreciation

Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) Church in Phoenix, Arizona invited the public to join in celebrating Rev. Dr. Benjamin N. Thomas Sr.'s 31st pastoral appreciation.

On a Facebook post on Saturday, Aug. 6, the church announced that the celebration will be held on Aug. 14, Sunday, at 10 a.m. 

According to the church, Rev. Thomas was the head senior minister and pastor of the church.

The church said there will be limited in-person seatings and registration is required.

Tanner Chapel AME Church said the registration was opened on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m.

In the same post, the church also stated that the Steward Board of Historic Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church was also asking for a love gift of $50 through the link provided in the church’s post.

Pastor Benjamin Thomas Sr.

Tanner Chapel AME Church has been led by Rev. Thomas since 1991, according to the church's website.

The church said Pastor Thomas served as the pastor of Price Chapel AME Church in Los Angeles, California, Walker Chapel AME Church in Seattle, Washington, and Handy Chapel AME Church in Joplin, Missouri before moving to Phoenix to lead Tanner Chapel.

According to the church, he serves on a number of boards and organizations in the Phoenix metropolitan region and is committed to both his church family and the community.

Tanner Community Development Corporation (TCDC), a non-profit organization, was created by Thomas in 2001 as a result of his dedication, care, and concern for the community in which he lives and serves. 

The organization works as a direct service provider as well as an intermediary, bringing together the African American community in need and nonprofit organizations to share resources in support of its goals and programs.

It stated that the church serves the greater Phoenix metropolitan region and its environs. 

The church said it works to serve in an excellent manner because they are aware that they will never outgrow the people's need for God. 

This way, they can assist the people in meeting that need, it added.

Worship Services

Tanner Chapel AME Church also invited the public to join for Sunday virtual worship experiences, church school, and Wednesday Bible study with the pastor.

The church said the worship services are held every Sunday at 10 a.m. via Facebook live on its official page.

Meanwhile, the church school is held every Sunday at 9 a.m. via Zoom, according to the church.

According to the church, Bible study with the pastor is held on Wednesdays at 12 noon at 6:30 p.m. via conference call.

Tanner Chapel AME Church said they also have weekly neighborhood Bible study groups that meet on various days and times throughout the valley.
