The Atlanta First United Methodist Church in Georgia has encouraged the public to join the new Grow book club.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 22, the Atlanta First United Methodist Church announced that it will hold a Grow book club via Zoom meeting on the fourth Monday of each month.
According to the church’s post, it will start in May to discuss the faith implications behind some popular reads.
They will be reading Chibundu Onuzo's Sankofa for the first month, the Atlanta First United Methodist Church said.
The church said Sankofa is a Ghanaian symbol for a bird flying backward in search of new meaning and insight, which is exactly what the main heroine, Anna, undertakes in this book.
She starts on a voyage of self-discovery by reaching back in time to comprehend her present, despite a slew of life challenges, including a divorce and the loss of her mother, according to the church.
While searching for answers, she discovers something more complicated: her father, whom she never met, is still alive and serves as the leader of a small African country, the church added.
The church said it will post discussion topics as well as a link to the Zoom participant on its Facebook post.
