Church’s Grow Book Club

The new Grow book group at Atlanta First United Methodist Church is open to the public.

The Atlanta First United Methodist Church announced on Facebook on Friday, April 22 that it had a Grow book club via Zoom meeting on the fourth Monday of each month.

According to the church's announcement, discussions about the spiritual implications of some popular books will begin in May.

For the first month, they will be reading Chibundu Onuzo's Sankofa, according to Atlanta First United Methodist Church.

Sankofa is a Ghanaian symbol for a bird flying backward in quest of fresh meaning and insight, according to the church, which is exactly what the main heroine, Anna, does in this book.

Despite a series of life hardships, including a divorce and the death of her mother, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery by traveling back in time to understand her present.

While looking for answers, she learns that her father, whom she never met, is still alive and serves as the leader of a small African country, according to the church.

The church stated it will offer conversation themes as well as a link to the Zoom participant.

World Health Day

The Atlanta First United Methodist Church has issued health-related advice in honor of World Health Day.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, April 7, the Atlanta First United Methodist Church offered some suggestions for reducing harm and creating a community focused on wellness and well-being.

People must collaborate to discover solutions to keep the globe and their neighbors healthy in the face of a pandemic, increased pollution, and the rise of diseases like cancer, asthma, and heart disease, according to the church's post.

According to the church, people should adopt one or more of these five beneficial activities this week to help people reduce damage and develop a culture that fosters well-being.

Walking, biking, or taking MARTA to work; being extra deliberate about turning off lights when they aren't in use; avoiding processed foods and buying items from local farmers; those thinking about quitting smoking or vaping, think about it; and using reusable grocery bags instead of plastic bags are some of the shared tips.
