Church's Early Years

According to Ben Hill United Methodist Church website, the church bought a neighboring plot of land in 1950, bringing the total area of the property to around five acres.

Ben Hill United Methodist Church stated that Pastor J.R. Phillips claimed to have expanded the 425-member congregation past the capacity of the building by 1951.

The church claimed that in the 1960s and early 1970s, African Americans first started settling in southwestern Fulton County, Georgia.

In this age of transition, according to Ben Hill Methodist Church, there was a time of change.

According to the church, the congregation was made up primarily of white people who left the neighborhood, which affected church attendance.

The church claimed that throughout this time of change, Reverend Paul Wolgomuth acted as the lead pastor.

It stated that Wolgomuth frequently knocked on doors in the Ben Hill neighborhood to invite immigrants to church services.

The church said that Rev. Y.A. Oliver was chosen as the organization's first full-time pastor after the parsonage was constructed.

Ben Hill United Methodist Church is still developing and giving back in order to serve God and the community, it said.

Original Members

According to the Ben Hill United Methodist Church, John Waits, Sidney Robbins, and David Waits were among its founding members.

The church said Waitz was also reputed to have been a well-known music director. He sang during camp meetings as well as church services, it was claimed.

According to the church, post offices were constructed on Fairburn Road and Campbellton Road following the Civil War.

Ben Hill's name, as stated, was given in honor of Georgia's newest senator from Troup County.

The church asserted that it considers the transition from a four-station church to a one-station church to be the finest approach to demonstrate how the church has evolved and matured.

Wesley Chapel was established in 1853 and is situated in Niskey Lake Parish in Fulton County, Georgia, according to the church's website.
