Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia is set to distribute water filters for typhoon-hit victims in Puerto Rico.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Sept. 26, the church said it is working with long-term partners at Uzima in order to deliver and distribute around 1,000 water filters in the most affected areas within Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico last Sunday, dumping over 30 inches of water, causing massive flooding and destructive landslides, according to the church's post.

Over 100,000 people live without access to potable water and over half of the island still lacks power, the church said.

The church said a large portion of the affected population lives in remote mountain areas where power and water supplies won't be restored in the upcoming weeks.

It added that the need for access to clean water is urgent.

The campaign to mobilize has already started, the church said.

Interested donors may give to "Disaster Relief - Puerto Rico" on the church's website at https://pushpay.com/g/prumcatlanta. They may also directly visit Uzima - Operation Puerto Rico at https://uzimacleanwatermission.kindful.com/ to join the initiative.

Worship Services

According to the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, the alternate service includes a full band in contrast to the regular service, which includes an organ and chorus. Although screens are an option, the written bulletin is the conventional way to follow the service.

It enables everyone to dress however they please. According to the church, people frequently dress their "Sunday finest" during sanctuary services, but elsewhere, they keep it casual.

The church added that while neither is necessary, they nevertheless want everyone to be aware of what to anticipate so that they feel at ease.

The facilities are down the hall, and according to the church, there is a communal area outside each place of worship.

Regular services, according to the church, begin at 8:45 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. The service will last about 60 minutes and will start with a time of fellowship with the priest, staff, and other worshipers, according to the church

It declared that, if they choose to remain silent during the social gathering, it will respect their decision.

The commencement of the worship session, according to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, will be announced by music.

According to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, its volunteers may point them in the right direction if they need a private space for nursing or making phone calls.

The church's website said the majority of the worship services are placed in the Sanctuary and Chapel.

Other Services

The Peachtree Road United Methodist Church claims that Peachtree Road values and feeds children, as well as treating them like MVPs.

The church said they are happy to guide children as they grow in their faith in a fun and understandable way.

It was also proposed that they might simply offer all children from six weeks to fifth-grade care and programming on Sundays just a text message or a short walk away, as well as an entire facility and program just for the teenagers from middle and high schools.
